About Nursing

We offer nursing professionals an array of career choices within a progressive practice environment and a work culture that respects and nurtures its nurses.

Our ultimate goal is to develop an engaged nursing workforce and to provide nurses with a positive, safe, and compassionate work environment where they can enhance their clinical and leadership skills, pursue nursing research, advance through education, and deliver safe, high quality patient care.

Kaiser Permanente nurses have an opportunity to work in the acute care setting, as well as such areas as advice, home care, ambulatory care, and case management. Our nurses can also pursue leadership roles as nurse managers, consultants, or educators in their area of specialization. Kaiser Permanente has created structured programs to help nurses advance in their careers. They can move between departments or even facilities in order to broaden their range of expertise or accommodate changes in their professional and/or personal lives.

We invest in the future of our nursing staff by providing a variety of educational opportunities, such as distance learning, for those who want to pursue advanced degrees or specialty education programs. We also plan to implement Internet-based e-learning, which will provide access to information at times that fit the individual's schedule. Availability of specific programs, such as tuition reimbursement and forgivable loans, vary from region to region.

Nursing Pathways is a program dedicated to improving all aspects of nursing at Kaiser Permanente. The six Nursing Pathways - workplace, leadership, learning, practice work environment, nursing research, quality, and patient safety - address key areas identified by nurses as critical to a supportive environment. Please go to the Nursing Pathways Web site to learn more about this program designed to help nurses advance and reward them for excellence.
