Description:
Job Summary:

Licensed registered nurse who has completed training in the care of Specialty Procedure patients (ie General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Vascular, GYN and Gastroenterology). Incumbent utilizes a high level of knowledge of the procedure process and effectively communicates medical issues with physicians. Coordinates multidisciplinary care with ACC, CDU and External Specialty care groups as needed. Interprets data received prior to treatment and utilizes nursing judgment that is in line with physician and treatment modality.  Ability to be self-directed and act independently and to intervene as appropriate to resolve issues Pre/Intra and Post operatively.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Basic knowledge of the disease process, coordination of multidisciplinary care, high level of judgment, ability to interpret data received, coordinate and integrate information and communicate medical issues with physicians.  Directs, initiates, and implements patient care plan based on established protocols for the respective specialties of Procedural Suites. Collaborates with practitioners, nurses, patients and families.

  • Pre-operative: Perform pre-op assessment, initiate intravenous catheter care, central line care, medication administration, cardiac monitoring, vital sign assessment.

  • Intra-operative : (Manage nursing care of the sedated patient, work in conjunction with Charge Nurse/Surgeon about any case or patient concerns, assist the operative team to create and maintain a safe environment, knowledgeable of sterile technique and practices in the operative setting, knowledgeable about safe use of equipment during procedures, able to properly handle surgical specimens for testing, understands role during emergency care, assists with room cleaning and proper handling of instrumentation at case completion) Provide knowledge based technical assistance to the Physician, Use of instruments and medical devices within the procedure room, continuous vital sign assessment.

  • Post-operative: Monitors and evaluates patient condition and response to procedure and sedation. Provide Patient and family education, initiate emergency care of procedural suite patients as needed and patient follow-up. Assess side effects of treatment and identifies additional health problems that may require medical attention.

  • Reviews laboratory data for abnormal or unusual results.

  • Confers with the physician as needed based on the medical status of the patient.

  • Documents patient information in Health Connect (EMR).

  • Provides emotional counseling and ongoing support to patients and their families in matters relating to the pre, intra and post-operative care of Specialty procedures, surgical intervention, the prognosis, and follow up care as needed.

  • Work closely with the medical, nursing, and ancillary staff of the institution to provide quality and safe care.  Continuity between ACC, CDU and specialty services is emphasized.

  • Acts as liaison with the nursing and medical staff when outpatients are admitted to the hospital.

  • Maintenance of records pertaining to patient care.

  • Continuing education: is required and will be determined by each Specialty Nurse Manager.

  • Float as necessary to the other Procedural Suites locations.
Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum three (3) years of RN clinical nursing experience.

  • Minimum one (1) year Critical care or/and Operating room experience.


Education


  • Associates Degree or two (2) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.


License, Certification, Registration


  • Registered Professional Nurse License (Georgia) required at hire



  • Basic Life Support required at hire



  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire


Additional Requirements:


  • Complete a Customer Service Assessment.

  • Membership in critical care nursing organizations and the achievement of nursing certification preferred.

  • Membership in AORN and achievement of nursing certification preferred.

  • Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred.
