Description:
Prescribe nutrition care orders and establish treatment goals, by assessing symptoms, laboratory values, food intake, physical activity, medical history and medications, for adult (including geriatric) and pediatric patients. For pediatric patients this will include developmental assessment and growth. Treatment is measured by changes in laboratory values, changes in physical condition and relief of symptoms. Counsel, motivate and teach patients and families the recommended dietary treatment, and convince them to alter eating and lifestyle behaviors. Results are measured by patient compliance with recommended modification in diet. In consultation with Director of Nutrition Services, coordinate service with clinic administration, providers and health education department. Coordinate outpatient nutrition service at the clinic by: prioritizing patient referrals and directing detail clerks with scheduling dietitian appointments, training appointment clerks to triage referrals and phone calls for the dietitian, establishing appointment schedules, and maintaining office and educational supplies. Results are measured by providing requested services within budget and scope of practice standards. Evaluate and develop, as necessary, appropriate educational materials to use as aids in nutrition education, by interpreting, evaluating and utilizing current research related to nutrition care. Success is measured by availability of appropriate materials for use with patients. Provide medical staff/allied health providers and members with current information on diet therapy, food products, nutritional supplements and community nutrition programs through visual aids, written materials, inservices and phone advice. Results are measured by satisfying providers and members with requested information. Performs other duties as requested.
Minimum six (6) months as a clinical dietitian or successful completion of a dietetic internship. Bachelor's degree in nutrition or dietetics. Current Oregon Dietitian License AND Washington Dietitian Certification required. License/Certification in state where assigned required upon hire/transfer, application for License/Certification in secondary state required within 2 weeks of hire/transfer and must be obtained within 6 months. American Dietetic Commission on Dietetic Registration: Registered Dietitian (RD). National Provider Identifier (NPI) required prior to employment date.
Thorough knowledge of clinical nutrition as related to disease for adult (including geriatric) and pediatric patients. Understanding of and ability to apply American Dietetic Association standards of practice. Effective time management skills, effective communication skills, problem solving and mathematical skills. Ability to evaluate nutrition education materials and make recommendations for changes. Ability to modify basic nutrition treatment regimens to individual patient needs.
Experience, in an outpatient setting as a clinical dietitian, counseling all ages in making diet and lifestyle behavior changes. Working knowledge of behavioral modification. Basic knowledge of system resources available for nutrition care. Familiarity with basic computer operation. (e.g. KARE). Ability to teach nutrition classes and manage group interactions.
To prescribe and implement clinical nutrition interventions which produce changes in eating and lifestyle behaviors, medical condition and relief of symptoms. Provide nutritional consultation and in-service to providers/staff.
