Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Cardiology (Mt. Talbert)

Description: Provide high quality cardiovascular care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.

Essential Functions:
  • Review all admissions with cardiac diagnoses, evaluate for appropriateness of workup and treatment plans and need for consultation. Perform cardiology consultations when indicated or requested. Specific duties include completing histories and physicals, reviewing coronary angiograms, ordering diagnostic studies and medications, providing pre-procedure education, writing admitting orders and scheduling procedures.
  • Review all monitored patients to ensure that there is an ongoing need for this level of care. Interact with attending physicians to arrange for transfer from monitored beds when appropriate.
  • Provide post-procedure care. Discharge and transfer patients. Specific duties include placement of arterial and central venous lines, all forms of cardiology stress testing, minor surgical and hospital procedures such as suturing, ordering tests and medications, ordering therapy and rehabilitation services, providing postoperative education, writing discharge and transfer orders, and dictating discharge summaries. Rounding and responding to patient emergencies may occur during weekend hours as determined by the supervising physician.
  • Provide outpatient clinic follow-up for patients discharged following cardiac procedures and for patients needing ongoing cardiac outpatient care as determined by a physician.
  • Actively participate in Kaiser Permanente Cardiology Department's weekly Cardiac Catheterization conference. Review patient histories, treatments and outcomes. Perform other duties as requested.

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum seven (7) years (half time or greater) Cardiology experience as an Allied Clinician.
  • Five (5) (within the past ten (10) ) years cardiovascular, critical care or emergency room experience as a PA/NP. Experience interpreting coronary angiograms, electrocardiograms and cardiology stress tests.
  • Graduate of ANA-approved Nurse Practitioner or AMA-approved Physician Assistant program or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.
  • High school diploma or GED.
    License, Certification, Registration
  • National certification.
  • State medical license.
  • Current Oregon or Washington RN license in state where assigned required upon hire/transfer.
  • State NP license.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required prior to employment start date.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to support face to face and virtual medicine (VM) visits for AFib patients across the region.
  • Ability to -panel- straightforward AFib patients across the region
  • Ability to assist the member in reversing AFib symptoms, risk factor management, and medication titration.
  • Ability to influence member to enhance health, improve associated risk factors and avoid unnecessary ED visits
  • Extensive and demonstrable knowledge of AFib patients and care.
  • Thorough knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and their medical/surgical treatment. Working knowledge of state health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations. Important to know limitations and when to refer patients to a cardiologist.
  • Ability to assess, diagnose and plan effective treatment for cardiovascular disease and injuries. Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, to see large volume of patients, and to interface with large physician and support staff. Minor surgery skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years or more experience working with AFib population.
