Description:

Leads Pharmacy Operations to provide leadership and management of Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Services to assure consistent high levels of performance in pharmaceutical care, service, and operations.  Supports the Pharmacy Operations to achieve National and Regional goals across all practice settings.  Collaborates with Regional/Area leadership, Union leadership, and Medical Group leadership to provide direction and oversight to maintain and improve operational performance and compliance.  Collaborates with National and Regional Pharmacy Operations and related KP National functions in development and execution of strategy for delivery of pharmaceutical care, service and operations to: 1) Optimally utilize and integrate centralized support services and technology; 2) Integrate processes to assure the quality of pharmaceutical care and services across practice settings,  and to assure regulatory and corporate compliance; 3) Collaborate with Regional / Area Pharmacy Directors to provide leadership to assure the professional/management development for Pharmacy Directors and their direct reports to assure high performing teams and personnel necessary for the long term success of Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Services in Kaiser Permanente; 4) Assure pharmacy space needs are incorporated into the Area master planning activities; 5) assist with operating and capital budgets across Pharmacy Services to assure appropriate resource utilization and consistent operations and scope of service; and 6) Monitor performance against regulations and standards making appropriate adjustments to achieve compliant operations, 7) responsible for the continued oversight of the inspections and contracted Outsourcing Facilities.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist the VP, Acute and Transitional Care, National Pharmacy to:

  • Work collaboratively with Quality & Medication Safety Leadership to assure consistent deployment of processes and tools to measure and ensure the quality of sterile compounding operations;

  • Work collaboratively with National Pharmacy Controls to ensure appropriate controls of sterile compounding pharmaceuticals, policy development and adherence measures;

  • Seek out, promote, and facilitate the rapid adoption and assimilation of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, KPIs, technology, and operational systems that improve sterile compounding pharmacy services.

  • Develop long-term strategic manufacturing plans for both 503A and 503B operations (i.e., centralized ops)

  • Develops and oversees annual and new employee staff sterile compound training. Provides staff training and testing as needed.

  • Screens an of any FDA Warning Letters, Form 483b, and obtains follow-up related to the corrective actions taken and continuous quality improvement programs implemented by all contracted vendors (outsourcing facilities).

  • Provides ongoing leadership and direction to enhance service offerings and insourcing of sterile product capability for the National and Regional Pharmacy Leaders.

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure compliance with Pharmacy law, regulation, pharmacy business practices, accreditation standards, and other Kaiser Permanente policies; Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis.     Basic Qualifications:

    Experience


  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership-level experience in management of sterile product pharmacy operations, cGMP operations, and/or 503A / 503B pharmacies.

  • Education


    • Degree in Pharmacy required.

    License, Certification, Registration


  • Licensed to practice pharmacy by the California Board of Pharmacy, or ability to obtain license within specified time, if licensed outside of California.
     

  • Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in Pharmacy operations, systems, technology, and personnel management.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize effective communication, presentation, financial management, and analytical skills required.

  • Demonstrated track record of self-initiative, strategic thinking, and successful planning and innovation.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians and health care administrators.

  • Documented record of success in management of sterile compounding pharmacy operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply and utilize knowledge of quality management process, as well as Pharmacy and related Medical,

  • Nursing and other health care laws, regulations, and standards.

  • Proficiency with personal computer usage necessary for monitoring, and reporting financial and operational performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage professionals and others through influence and collaboration across multiple sites.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and direct peer groups and interdisciplinary project teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of personnel management principles and techniques.

  • Some travel required.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
     

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in Federal and State regulatory requirements governing 503A, 503B Outsourcing Facilities, and cGMP

  • Training or certification in world class manufacturing, engineering, total quality management systems, Lean manufacturing practices, and Six Sigma quality management

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy in health services or business administration OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field preferred.
