Description:

Pharmacist Evidence Analyst & Strategists (PEAS) provide expertise in clinical evidence review that is applied in support of Formulary/Pharmacy & Therapeutics management and best practices for medication stewardship within Kaiser Permanente. This builds the foundation for the organization to practice evidence-based medicine and promote safe, effective, and affordable use of pharmaceuticals for the betterment of our members' health.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent evidence-based reviews and recommendations to respective stakeholders including but not limited to: monographs with formulary recommendations, guidelines, FAQs, patient education materials, and documents for internal publication.

  • Serve as the clinical content expert with expertise beyond that of a general drug information specialist to support drug-related initiatives and strategies across the program.

  • Develop formulary strategies and recommendations in response to newly approved therapeutic agents, patent expirations, FDA alerts and drug recalls or withdrawals.

  • Establish credibility and rapport to influence, educate, and present to physician specialists and committees.

  • Monitor and critically evaluate information about pharmaceuticals in the research pipeline and those that are FDA approved. Formulate credible forecasts for potential market availability, costs, and impact on other available therapies. This includes skill and knowledge in the use of various pharmaceuticals databases, drug utilization reports, and market analyses.

  • Identify drug use management opportunities and propose drug use management strategies in order to improve quality, promote evidence-based prescribing and promote cost-effective use of pharmaceuticals.

  • Handle confidential patient information as well as confidential, proprietary business-related information (e.g., business strategies and contracting intelligence) appropriately.

  • Respond to drug inquiries, including interacting with health care professionals to gather needed information and then properly researching, analyzing, and responding in an accurate, credible, supportive, and timely manner.

  • Recommend and collaborate with stakeholders in the development of clinical decision-support content in the electronic medical record in various settings (e.g., inpatient, ambulatory).

  • Recommend areas for outcomes assessment of the impact of pharmaceuticals and guidelines on patient care.

  • Precept student pharmacists, PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents and provide formative and summative evaluations on performance.

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Travel to meetings as required.

  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • One (1) year of pharmacy residency or 3 years of clinical experience in a similar role

  • Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 clinical pharmacy residency or equivalent experience

  • Recent (within last 5 years) drug information experience (in drug information practice and/or formulary support/management) or equivalent experience

  • Education

  • Pharmacy degree required (BS or higher).

  • License, Certification, Registration

  • A current Pharmacist license upon start date of position and must obtain California license within the first 12 months of hire

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required


  • Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to effectively educate, advocate, and inform

  • Possess good organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize work

  • Ability to adapt to meet work load demands as well as being proactive, resourceful, and efficient when tackling new tasks or responsibilities

  • Understand electronic data processing, information storage and retrieval, and the general use of computers to effectively organize, communicate, present, document, and analyze information


  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced residency (e.g., PGY2 Specialty Residency in Drug Information), fellowship, board certification, or drug information-related specialty training (e.g., comparative effectiveness research). 

  • Doctor of pharmacy degree (PharmD) from an ACPE accredited school/college of pharmacy
