Diagnostic Imaging Clerk- PRN (Gwinnett)

Description: Under direct supervision of the Diagnostic Imaging, Digital Imaging Supervisor, the Radiology Imaging Clerk serve as the custodian of all imaging files to include processing completed imaging studies for interpretation by the radiologist and routing imaging files to internal and external customers. With the use of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), the Digital Imaging Clerk will support physicians, technologists and other medical staff in the acquisition and distribution of digital patient records in Radiology. The Digital Imaging Clerk works in conjunction with the PACS Informatics Team to ensure the maintenance and integrity of the patients Radiology records. The Digital Imaging Clerk coordinates and participates in a variety of clerical activities involved in the filing, retrieval and distribution of patient x-ray film folders, in the maintenance of associated computer systems.

Essential Functions:
  • Use the PACS and Radiology information system to track and identify the location of imaging film files.
  • Coordinate and participate in activities relating to the filing, retrieval and distribution of x-ray films, film folders.
  • Operate film digitizer to convert hard copy images (film) into digital format and transmit to PACS.
  • Scan/Digitize hard copy films into the PACS system for comparative and archival purposes; Assures accuracy of information and/or images scanned.
  • Fulfill customer requests for images by reprinting exams from PACS onto film for pick-up by requestor while utilizing proper Quality Assurance measures.
  • Utilize CD burner to import images, send to PACS, and/or print films per request.
  • Perform daily cleaning on the PACS Radiologist workstations as well as maintaining organization and cleanliness with the clerical imaging work areas.
  • Process CD's and route electronic images, retrieval of films of intra and inter departmental use, digitizing paperwork and hard copy films into the PACS database as well as importing of images from outside CDs into the PACS database.
  • Review scanned entries for QA/QC purposes and initiates corrective action to correct errors.
  • Determine case priority for handling and scanning films based upon departmental standards and procedures.
  • Prepare, update, track and forward film jackets to and from requesting locations.
  • Ensure film files are maintained in terminal digit order.
  • Maintain shelving of records; shelve and purge jackets as necessary; repair and volumize film jackets as necessary; search and reconcile misfiled jackets as needed utilizing knowledge of jacket flow patterns.
  • Maintain organized work environment.
  • Prepare and discharge reading room viewers for image interpretation.
  • Maintain established productivity levels.
  • Manage member concerns appropriately and effectively.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Ten-key skills of 105 spm net on a computer numeric keypad.
  • Obtain passing score on windows navigation test.
  • Demonstrated ability to distinguish imaging film for type and quantity for various type exams.
  • Ability to process mail and other documents with a high degree of proficiency and speed.
  • Ability to come into work on time and on a daily basis.
  • Strong detail orientation skills.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills in a customer focused manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six (6) to twelve (12) months of work experience in Document services incoming/imaging unit preferred or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with PACS terminology preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Strong software skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.
