MRI Technologist I

Description:
Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images (photographs) of patients' body for diagnostic purposes. Under the direction of the Chief of Radiology and the Imaging Services Director, with latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative, performs related technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes.

Essential Functions:
- Performs patient studies according to set protocol, including placing specified coil close to area of interest.
- Operates imaging and other equipment devices so that quality diagnostic services are provided, including keying commands to specify scan sequences into computer, adjusting transmitters and receivers, and keying in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images.
- Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures and to address patient concerns, and exhibits a high degree of tact, courtesy, and poise when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors.
- Ensures patient and staff safety, including explaining safety protocol, requesting removal of hazardous metal objects, alerting staff of danger or carrying metal around magnet, and monitoring patients via closed circuit TV.
- Trains MRI Technologist Trainees and MRI Technologists I in MRI procedures.
- May be required to direct, check and train other MRI employees.
- Orients new hires and trains students.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Have minimum two (2) years of continuous Regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) recent experience performing computerized tomography (CT) and must, to the satisfaction of the department manager be fully proficient in performing all the duties of CT; or,
- Have minimum two (2) years of continuous Regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) recent experience as a Registered Ultrasound Technologist in two or more modalities and must, to the satisfaction of the department manager be fully proficient in performing all the duties of an Ultrasound Technologist, or,
- Have minimum one (1) year of continuous Regular (twenty (20) hours or more per week) recent experience as a MRI Technologist and must, to the satisfaction of the department manager, be fully proficient in performing al the duties of a MRI Technologist I.
Education
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Have satisfactorily completed a three (3) unit semester course in cross-sectional anatomy at an accredited college or have the demonstrated equivalent knowledge as determined by the department manager.
License, Certification, Registration
- California Venipuncture Certificate (must be obtained with 6 months of hire)
- CRT - California Radiologic Technologist License required.
- BLS required.


 


Additional Requirements:
- Have satisfactorily completed a three (3) unit semester course in cross-sectional anatomy at an accredited college or have the demonstrated equivalent knowledge as determined by the department manager.
- Must be able to communicate well in order to train other MRI Technologists Trainees and MRI Technologists I in MRI procedures.
- May be required to direct, check and train other MRI employees.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
 


Preferred Qualifications:
- ARRT preferred.

I’ve waited to get in to Kaiser for so long and now that I’m in, I’d never let go. I love people that i work with (although just like any other jobs, it has it’s highs and lows), i love my patients, pay is great and benefits are awesome!!
