Description:
Management of the comprehensive pain management and mind body wellness programs. Role includes partnering with multidisciplinary team members to provide evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, case management & psychotherapeutic interventions.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Operates the Regional Pain Program by leading in the development of processes, procedures and systems to assure efficient delivery of high quality, affordable, integrated care for patients with chronic pain. Organize and develop resources to deliver and continuously improve the components of the program.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates clinical treatment programs for the diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral of Health Plan members referred to the Comprehensive Pain Management Program. Assesses and manages psychological issues for patients entering the chronic pain program which will be done at an individual level and in a group setting and consults with other departments as needed for co-management of care.
  • Administers specialized therapeutic  approaches such as cognitive behavioral (CBT) therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT),  Provides individual instruction in mindfulness-based practices, meditation/relaxation techniques, and biofeedback. Evaluates patient candidacy for implantable interventional pain procedures, such as spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pump placement.
  • Responsible for teaching and coordinating educational activities for patients in pain and other group classes. Teaches sessions in the community and at KP Wellness events on pain management and mind body wellness.
  • Development, planning, implementation and evaluation of a regional integrated pain program for the Mid-Atlantic States. Develop processes, procedures and systems to assure efficient delivery of high quality, affordable, integrated care for patients with chronic pain. Organize and develop human and material resources to deliver and continuously improve the components of the program.
  • Partner with the Physician Director to lead a regional multi-modality Pain Service Team and a Regional Pain Board to ensure appropriate quality activities, effective business decisions and member satisfaction. Develop programs to enhance the self-care capacity, functionality and comfort of members with chronic pain.
  • Develop and implement new patient education programs as needed. Provide direct patient care services in both group and individual contact settings. Participate in evidence-based research.
  • Address and resolve patient complaints and issues to assure member satisfaction and improve the quality of care. Conduct individual patient evaluation and ongoing clinical Mind Body treatment as needed for patients in the department.

    Basic Qualifications:


    Experience



    • Minimum one (1) year of experience in treating chronic pain/chronic pain management.



    Education




    • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology required.




    License, Certification, Registration



    • Valid license in assigned jurisdiction is required upon hire date as a LCSW, LCSW-C, LICSW, LPC, or LCPC.

    • Must obtain tri-licensure in all three jurisdictions within one (1) year of hire date.

    • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required prior to employment start date.



     


    Additional Requirements:



    • Enroll in PECO within 90 days of hire.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Knowledge of tolerance, addiction and pseudo addiction in pain patients.

    • Knowledge of worker's compensation system and short-term disability system.

    • Demonstrated ability to function independently without direct clinical supervision.

    • Previous experience with patients who have chronic pain and/or cancer required.

    • Conversant in anatomy and physiology of pain, pharmacologic, surgical and procedural treatments for pain.

    • Previous experience in compiling, evaluating, and analyzing utilization data, and database management required.

    • Knowledge of social services agencies, state regulations and APA standards as they relate to client treatment, patient rights and client/patient confidentiality, and other ethical issues.

    • Knowledge of biofeedback and ability to perform and teach cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques as it relates to pain management.

    • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

    • Skill in teaching, counseling and facilitating individual and group change processes required.



     


    Preferred Qualifications:



    • Documented experience dealing with a wide variety of pain, surgical, psychiatric, chemical dependency and general medical/surgical patients.
