This position is accountable for rapidly and effectively executing projects/initiatives related to Kaiser Permanente Northwest's (KPNW's)  strategic priorities. Initiatives are prioritized and have been assigned by the Leadership Team. The nature of the projects/initiatives may span multiple departments/organizations within the Region, and will be high profile, requiring deep and effective consultative engagement of the Sponsor(s) and frequent engagement with executives. This position will lead project/initiative implementation teams (with accountability for portfolio budgets, resource allocation and achieving timelines/milestones. The purpose of this role is designed to drive membership growth by leading execution of major cross- functional projects that inform the growth and market strategies essential to KP's revenue, membership and margin goals. Scope of role includes: 1) isolate business issues; 2) design and execute analytics for studying business issues 3) bring technical/content expertise 4) vet findings and make formal recommendations to senior levels of KP leadership; 5) review/approve strategic recommendations; 6) execute strategies to deliver results.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads, on behalf of executive Sponsor(s), the development of comprehensive and strategic business cases with cost/benefit and implementation complexity dimensions of proposed projects that will achieve specific goals in the Region's Strategic Plan.

  • Effectively manages complex cross - departmental/organizational projects/initiatives through planning and implementation with Health Plan, Northwest Permanente and Labor (as needed). Supervises members assigned to the project/initiative Team, and is accountable for quality outcomes.

  • As Project Team Leader, structures identified and unidentified issues for resolution, researching, summarizing information and working with key stakeholders to provide the Executive Sponsor(s) with information to make sound and timely decisions to move the projects/initiatives forward. Prepares and delivers reports with analysis and recommendations.

  • Acts as a communication liaison between the Executive Sponsor(s) and the project/initiative Team and represents the executive's point of view. Makes decisions on behalf of the Executive Sponsor(s) for the project/ initiative assigned within established parameters.

  • Accountable to Executive Sponsor(s) for bringing in the project/initiative on-time, on-budget and establishing a plan at the end of the project to hard-wire the gains made.

  • Prioritizes proactively, manages resource allocation, and demonstrates ability to leverage the Region's resources.

  • Demonstrates and leverages healthcare knowledge in Care Delivery and/or Health Plan to serve as a thought partner, and in some cases, a thought leader in finding a path to achieve extremely challenging goals associated with the Regional Strategic Plan.

  • Manages and develops team members from both a professional and personal standpoint (e.g., coaching and mentoring) to increase their overall effectiveness and value to the company.

  • Assists in the design and implementation of a consistent program/project management methodology for use throughout the Region.  Leads process improvement efforts within Marketing, Sales and Business Development to ensure improved quality outcomes.

  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive management and/or consulting experience with demonstrated business results.

  • Minimum three (3) years of management/leadership experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years of that experience in a health care administration-related environment.

  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

  • License, Certification, Registration

  • Demonstrated success in the areas of strategic/systems thinking, effective team building, change leadership, and results orientation.

  • Excellent coaching, mentoring, and team development skills.

  • Demonstrated skills in emotional intelligence, including areas of intrapersonal and interpersonal awareness, adaptability, and stress management.


  • Preferred Qualifications:


  • Six Sigma/Lean experience preferred.

  • PMP, PgMP or equivalent preferred.

  • Masters in business administration, healthcare administration, public health or a related field.

  • Understanding of the operations of KP or integrated care delivery systems preferred.
