The KPNW Regional Inpatient Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of pharmacy and therapeutics class reviews, medication use evaluations (MUEs), development of appropriate use criteria, advancement of clinical initiatives and other duties as assigned. The KPNW Regional Inpatient Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator will assist KWMC and KSMC Directors of Pharmacy in the cost-effective use of medications within the KPNW medical centers. The Clinical Coordinator will maintain oversight of formulary compliance and medication utilization patterns, and is expected to be the clinical pharmacy subject matter expert ensuring effective therapeutic pharmacy practices. The Clinical Coordinator will collaborate with medical staff and regional pharmacy team members to provide clinical and/or technical support activities, while ensuring compliance with State & Federal laws, regulations, and standards regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services. The Clinical Coordinator will assist with the development and implementation of local, regional and national KP pharmacy objectives, policies, procedures and strategic initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to assist with clinical and/or technical problem identification and resolution of electronic health record (EHR) improvement opportunities, cost containment challenges, implementation of new services and initiatives, and other pharmacy related systems and performance measures. Monitors and sustains services in compliance with state and federal laws, all regulatory bodies, established quality standards and organizational service standards.
  • Responsible for formulary management and protocol development.  Additionally, responsible for the development of procedures, medication evaluation and the standardization of care for inpatients. Coordinates, and evaluates area-wide programs and projects as assigned. Also, required to attend regular pharmacy meetings and committee meetings as assigned by leadership.
  • Serves as a resource to staff regarding departmental and medical center related policies, procedures and services. Provides training and coaching as needed.  
  • Collaboratively coordinates and implements educational training and competency programs for staff. Escalates pertinent and/or requested information to pharmacy management related to overall pharmacy department performance measures and staff performance challenges. May participate in the recruitment and selection process.
  • Serves as mentor for students, interns and residents.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum three (3) years of inpatient clinical pharmacist experience (the following may substitute: one (1) year of inpatient clinical pharmacist experience and two (2) years residency or fellowship OR two (2) years of inpatient clinical pharmacist experience and one (1) year residency or fellowship)
  • Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy with a bachelor's degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • Current Oregon Pharmacist license required within 90 days of hire/transfer

  • Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications
  • Prioritizes multiple tasks and projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Delegates and assigns work commensurate with knowledge, skill and experience, and ensures the work is performed appropriately
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise self-initiative and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inpatient pharmacy operations, including professional, legal, business and public relations aspects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work as a member of a professional team.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Board Certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) in applicable specialty
  • Residency or fellowship training in managed care, formulary management, drug information or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
  • Practice experience in integrated health care systems.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in handling multiple/simultaneous deadlines, variable hours and locations; outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Previous management experience
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
