Description:

Plans, develops, implements, supervises, and evaluates or collaborates in comprehensive programs that promote quality nursing services to meet wide variety of psychological, social, educational, and biological needs of women and their families within the Region. Serves as resource person and consultant to staff, physicians, administration, community and other Kaiser Permanente Regions regarding diabetes health care issues. Supervises assigned staff.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, researches, plans, develops, implements, supervises, and evaluates or collaborates in health promotion and intervention programs designed to prevent and/or reduce adverse outcomes to high risk and other selected diabetes patient populations.

  • Plans and budgets for personnel, supplies, and other items necessary to operate, maintain and improve quality of patient care in identified programs. Recommends capital expenditures; supervises allocation of resources and is accountable to established budget.

  • Identifies researches, develops, implements, and monitors standards of nursing care, protocols, and procedures to assure comprehensive, quality nursing services for diabetes patients. Collaborates with other departments, peers, nursing staff, and administration to achieve this.

  • Researches, develops, implements, and evaluates or collaborates in region-wide patient education materials and educational programs to meet wide variety of learning needs for Kaiser Diabetes patients and their families.

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates educational and staff development activities to promote quality patient care and to promote professional nursing practice. Collaborates with others involved in similar activities.

  • Utilizes problem-solving techniques to identify, study, and resolve clinical and service delivery issues. Participates in decision-making process; utilizes change process to effect desired changes.

  • Serves as clinical resource for staff.

  • Acts as consultant to colleagues, allied personnel, and administration on concerns relevant to patients, staff, and services, sharing knowledge to facilitate interdisciplinary approach to patient care.

  • Maintains current knowledge of nursing/medical/legal issues and implications. Participates in educational workshops, seminars and professional organizations; informs colleagues and staff of current issues.

  • Participates in or acts as liaison to various committees within organization concerned with health promotion and prevention, and professional nursing issues. Represents Kaiser on community and state-wide committees.

  • Serves as preceptor for students from schools of nursing, public health, and related programs.

  • Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate.

  • Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.

  • May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency, and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care for diabetes population.

  • Provides direct patient care on an as needed basis. Provides services that are within scope of license and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements relevant to clinical role performed.

  • Incorporates the KP Nursing Vision, Model and Values throughout their Nursing Practice.

  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience in Diabetes related area.

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience.

  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.

  • License, Certification, Registration

  • Valid Hawaii RN License (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure).

  • Current Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE).

  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.


  • Additional Requirements:

  • Population program development and implementation experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, conflict resolution, customer service, influence, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, team building, teamwork, and written communication.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.


  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year experience as Certified Diabetes Educator with excellent leadership, management, teaching, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Master's degree in nursing.
