Description:

Oversees pharmacy operations, clinical, and/or support activities in assigned area. Ensures compliance with standard practices of profession and laws. Performs supervisory duties pertaining to personnel function and professional duties. Resolves problems. Provides departmental leadership for specialty area while assuming functional and operational accountability. Performs pharmacist/clinical pharmacist duties as required. Supervises assigned staff.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Participates and aligns functional or operational area of responsibility in regional work plan development and revisions. Accountable for regional, department, and organizational leadership, oversight, and coordination for functional/operational area. Responsible for national functional responsibility as assigned. Represents Hawaii Region within national committees/work groups.  Participates in regional as well as local pharmacy meetings.

  • Complies with new and current policies and procedures, state and federal regulations. Performs inspections to ensure organizational adherence. Assists with and updates relevant policy and procedures.  Requires a high level of judgment to make appropriate decisions for diverse and undefined issues.  Requires significantly complex decision-making.

  • Manages all activities and operations of pharmacy, and functions and activities of pharmacist assistants and pharmacy technicians to ensure all functions and activities are within appropriate scope of practice.  Manages and improves area of responsibility by evaluating, coordinating, scheduling, and handling of requests and concerns. Establishes communication to pharmacy leadership team, hospital and clinic administration, physicians, and other health care related services.  Continually develops future leaders by coaching, mentoring, and leading by example. Participates in personnel development through orienting, training, evaluating, rewarding, recognizing, celebrating, and coaching.

  • Performs pharmacist duties as required. Interprets and evaluates prescription orders for labeling and dispensing. Compounds medications as required.  Orders or performs routine drug therapy related patient assessment procedures. Orders drug therapy related laboratory tests. Per collaborative agreement, initiates emergency contraception oral drug therapy.  Per practitioner order and if deemed competent, administers drugs/immunizations. Upon physician order and with appropriate documentation, Initiates or adjusts drug regimens. Transmits valid prescriptions. Provides consultation, information, or education to patients and health care professionals based on the pharmacist's training and for which no other licensure is required. Completes required documentation of services rendered in medical record, electronic systems, or prescription.

  • Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate.

  • Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.

  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum six (6) years pharmacist experience.

  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience.

  • Education

  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy college recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).


  • License, Certification, Registration

  • Valid Hawaii Pharmacist license (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure) upon date of hire.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.



  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board Certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS).

  • Minimum two (2) years Kaiser experience.


  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an institution recognized by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
