Coding Senior Manager - MD

Responsible for managing the daily operations of the Coding department to ensure accurate, complete and compliant code capture for Patient Service Revenue generated in the Medical Office Buildings of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States. Additionally, this role oversees internal encounter auditing and training for Health Plan coders and clinicians, and partners with MAPMG to provide ongoing refresher training programs and materials.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Oversees daily operations that support accurate, complete and compliant code capture for patient service revenue generated in Mid-Atlantic MOBs, as well as for professional services performed by MAPMG physicians in external hospitals.
  • Responsible for department performance, including the timely management of coding work queues and manual charge entry for professional services rendered by MAPMG outside of KPHC.
  • Initiates, plans and organizes the development of new and ongoing training programs and materials using appropriate training techniques as required. Consults and collaborates with MAPMG to ensure accuracy of all training and documentation for physician education.
  • Participates in organizational projects and technology systems as they impact coding in the organization. Continually assists the Revenue Cycle management team in identifying areas for process, code and charge capture improvement.
  • Facilitates adherence activities for national compliance audits, as well as those for regulatory and government programs
  • Conducts monthly and quarterly internal controls and SOX controls testing to ensure appropriate risk mitigation
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) years leading a coding team in a health care setting.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years coding/coding education experience in a health care setting.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree required OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • CPC or CCS-P or CCS or CPC-H required.

  • Additional Requirements:

  • Strong customer focus; excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead a large team.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills utilizing creativity and innovation.
  • Strong motivational, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Proficiency in developing an administering needs assessment, analyzing problems, and developing action plans required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Epic EMR
  • Experience with coding a range of services, including outpatient surgeries, dialysis, and infusion services
