This position administers the Region wide Clinical Technology Service Delivery program. The role provides the strategic direction, operational support and manages the implementation of service delivery to all KP Medical Centers, Clinics and Regional services. This individual leads a team of Managers, Physicists and Biomedical Engineers who are responsible for delivering on the vision, mission and goals of Clinical Technology. Finally this position will be responsible for building, growing and managing relationships with regional medical groups, KFH groups, KPIT groups, NFS (Capital Projects, Finance, and Facility Operations), KP Healthconnect, and KP Health Plan.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver consistent standards and excellent service to Service Areas in support of the service, quality, access, and efficiency goals while meeting all compliance and regulatory requirements. Deliver comprehensive medical equipment service/maintenance program that leverages best established safe/efficient clinical technology service practices in support of patient care.

  • Leads the strategy development and implementation for operational standards and metrics for clinical technology departments to ensure coordination and integration of systems/processes required for safe and proper functionality of the technology at any KP facility. Manage stakeholder (KPIT, Capital Teams, Capital budgeting, NFS Operations, Facility Operations, Strategic Planning, and Compliance) engagement by securing feedback on proposed plan. Determine and communicate impact on stakeholders.

  • Leads development of the regional CT budget and ensures that the overall budget is adequate, managed and tracked with appropriate financial systems and controls. Business justifications are robust with benchmarked staffing models and operations business projections in line with service forecasts (i.e. member utilization forecasts (MSSA data), long term KPIT build out projections, Construction projections, projected impact of legislation, etc.).

  • Works collaboratively with Nursing, Operations, TPMG, KPHC, NFS and KPIT to identify and drive appropriate changes to design, construction and operating standards, which improve clinical technology integration. Provides support for the Regional Clinical Technology Plan and Clinical Technology Committees. Establishes and maintains a means of identifying, monitoring and resolving issues related to clinical technologies that present a risk to Kaiser Permanente.

  • Prepare and present operational updates to Executive Leadership that demonstrates current performance as well as plans/actions to deliver improvements aligned to KP strategy.

  • Partners with NFS HR, regional HR leadership, Labor Relations Consultants.

  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum  ten (10) years of experience managing or leadership responsibilities at a regional level required.

  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, clinical engineering or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • License, Certification, Registration

  • Valid State Drivers License for the state the job is located in.


  • Additional Requirements:

  • Strong presentation skills, appropriate for presentations to the division, various regional leadership forums, regional executive forums as well as the many leadership and peer forums within these structures.

  • Must be able to advocate for Clinical Technology issues/solutions.

  • Must be able to work in very complex organization structures such as multi-facility health care organizations.

  • Competent knowledge in principles of medical devices and systems inter-operabilities, architecture, engineering, and construction as they relate to clinical technology.

  • Knowledge and experience of preparing contract documents, fixed price, and guaranteed maximum price.

  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations related to healthcare devices.  

  • Specific knowledge of OSHPD (in CA) and similar regulatory agencies practices,  and procedures in other states (outside CA).

  • Working knowledge of compliance issues applicable to clinical technology and visional operations (e.g. The Joint Commission, CMS, Sarbanes Oxley, Food and Drug Administration, etc.).

  • Must be able to work in the KP Labor Management Partnership environment.


  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience managing or leadership responsibilities at a regional level, within either a hospital/healthcare system or technology company in the healthcare industry preferred. 

  • Masters degree in business administration, clinical engineering or other directly related field preferred.
