Contracts Manager

Description: The Contracts Manager is responsible for working with key clients at each Kaiser Permanente facility in his/her assigned service area to help assure appropriate medical services planning and contracting. The Contracts Manager works as part of local teams, which include clients such as the Assistant Physician In Charge (APIC) for Outside Services and the Medical Office Controller (MOC), to identify both long-term and short-term facility service needs, beyond the scope of services currently provided there. As part of the regional team, the Contracts Manager is able to apply market knowledge and financial research to formulate specific opportunities for meeting the identified facility service needs. A significant portion of the Contract Manager's time is spent on-site at the KP facilities in the service area.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide leadership and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Review, analyze and draw appropriate conclusions from data.
  • Establish a rapport with internal and external clients which creates confidence in his/her ability to lead joint efforts and to bring projects to a successful completion.
  • Develop strategies which combine the team's input and provide support for business decisions which cost-effectively address the service needs issues.
  • Draw from his/her regional knowledge to most appropriately utilize both internal and external resources for service needs.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory and external review organizations in order to ensure that actions continue to keep KP in compliance with the requirements of these organizations.
  • As necessary, construct and negotiate legal documents (with input from Legal Department) and financial arrangements, which provide the basis for memorializing the agreements reached.
  • Proactively review contract performance, the external healthcare delivery market and utilization trends to assess the potential for additional cost savings and/or alternate delivery modes.
  • Work with a variety of external practitioners and facilities to successfully negotiate contractual agreements.

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or related field OR four (4) years experience in a directly related field.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge in strategic development and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to review quantitative and qualitative factors and develop a vision for resolving a particular issue.
  • Significant knowledge of healthcare industry in northern CA, a variety of provider types and services, provider payment mechanisms and regulatory issues.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
