Description:

The program manager will be assigned to a large, strategic mega-program to deliver a new quoting tool (CPQ - Configure, Price, Quote) to Kaiser Permanente-s front-line staff in sales and account management.The role will focus on change leadership across lines of business and functional areas for one or more regions.All changes impacting the region through CPQ will be consolidated and managed by this program manager.The program will span three-four years.


The program manager will have further opportunities to lead workstreams and change initiatives on other mega-programs after CPQ is fully implemented, taking on additional responsibilities and leadership roles.This initial assignment will provide insight into KP-s strategic initiatives, management of large cross functional programs and customer facing activities to secure new and ongoing business.

The Program Manager is responsible for designing and leading programs associated with strategic business issues and opportunities. The Program Manager may manage specific aspects of one or more programs, or multiple aspects of a single program within the organization. Criteria for moving from one level to the next includes greater skills and knowledge, built on experience (track record) and job assignments. This job family is intended for use in non-clinical/non-hospital settings. Must complete panel interview with PM Council members and receive level qualification for level 2.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead moderately complex work streams.
  • Plan own workload and those of others, prioritizing key tasks and ensuring the appropriate allocation of time and effort to achieve the required results.
  • Create clear, logical and realistic plan (e.g. work plan, storyboard) to make sure that everyone on the team knows what needs to be done.
  • Analyze and provide guidance on accurate budget estimates for tasks required to manage a program.
  • Understand and help develop the drivers of business value for programs and KP.
  • Review the work of more junior colleagues and take the lead on supporting quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all relevant program components and their interdependencies.
  • Anticipate issues, weigh practical considerations in addressing issues and seek input from engagement manager/sponsor to resolve.
  • Deep understanding of how program impacts KP's success to continually confirm and communicate strategic value to key stakeholders.
  • Develop an understanding of client's business and apply this knowledge to suggest appropriate approaches, tools and techniques to tackle client problems.
  • Synthesize analysis and highlight implications of findings in order to propose key alternatives/recommendations.
  • Adapt efficiently to changing circumstances and seek alternative ways of achieving program implementation goals.
  • Ensure the current and proposed processes are well understood and supported by stakeholder areas.
  • Build consensus with clients by contributing information and perspectives that direct the program.
  • Spend the necessary time discussing changes and initiatives with all effected individuals so the 'strategy' and reasons why' are clear.
  • Stands by decisions that benefit members/customers even if they are unpopular or impact short term performance.
  • Understands the strengths and weaknesses of team members and consistently provides support to develop their skills.
  • Conduct regular evaluation and guidance in career development, set goals and provide feedback.
  • Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of local education and training programs.
  • Thoroughly review available information and ask questions to build an understanding of activity/assignment.

    Basic Qualifications:
     
    Experience
     
  • Minimum five (5) years of program management experience.
  •  
    Education
     
  • Bachelor's degree in health care, business administration, or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field required.
  •  
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  •

    Additional Requirements:
     
  • Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility and working knowledge of another function.

    Preferred Qualifications:
     
    • Master's degree preferred.

    • Have strong leadership skills, collaboration and communication skills, be highly organized, tolerant of ambiguity and adaptable to change.

    • Managing large cross-functional programs

    • Leading large change management initiatives using standard change management methodologies

    • Executive engagement and management on large programs

    • Team leadership in a matrix environment
