This position will be working as a part of an extremely dynamic team of professionals supporting all aspects of the School of Medicine and the creation of the infrastructure, process, and procedures for the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. Experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of academic career paths, independently performing a broad range of responsibilities within the function, including advising individual faculty regarding academic career planning, facilitating collaborations and mentorship pairings, developing programs to support faculty scholarly success, working closely with department chairs and other School leaders to support institutional goals, and tracking and overseeing evaluation of programing. This individual has a comprehensive understanding of the medical education environment, academic promotion and appointment processes, and the training and ability to coach faculty towards academic career success and wellbeing.

Reporting directly to the Director of Faculty Affairs, this individual will provide support to faculty at all levels of the academic ladder. This position is part of the School's commitment and initiatives toward the development of its faculty and provides service to faculty, develops relevant materials and communications, and plans and executes events for the KPSOM community of educators.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an academic career coach for KPSOM faculty, which may include guiding the preparation of academic CVs, teaching academic writing, identifying ways to secure funding for scholarly activity, and mentoring faculty on reputation building locally, regionally or nationally.

  • Develop and maintain a library of resources, such as academic listserv communities, conferences, and opportunities to advance scholarly activity.

  • Identify potential faculty mentors and facilitate mentorship connections within and outside Kaiser Permanente.

  • Develop and manage programs and workshops to coach faculty at all career stages.

  • Manage calendar and communications of career and other development opportunities.

  • Track attendance at all faculty development events.

  • Serve as liaison to KPSOM department chairs on status and progress of faculty.

  • Monitor and review the status of KPSOM faculty through annual academic conferences and annual reports.

  • Research new initiatives and trends pertaining to academic and career development.

  • Oversee faculty award programs.

  • Collect, analyze and report data related to faculty development activities at KPSOM.


  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum (3) years of experience working directly with faculty in a higher education setting, including experience with academic coaching, faculty appointments and promotions, and career development or equivalent

  • Education

  • Master's degree in a related area OR a minimum six (6) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

  • License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A



  • Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal skills

  • Experience developing and managing faculty events

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask



  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of scholarly activity as a primary contributor

  • Experience working within a medical education setting

  • Experience as a faculty member
