Description:
The Assistant Dean for Medical Education Research will serve as a senior educational researcher on medical education in the Office of Research and Scholarship at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. The Assistant Dean will lead the development and implementation of an educational research program in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students at the school. The Assistant Dean is responsible for defining priorities for scholarly activities in medical education, with a special emphasis on the impact of curricular innovations on outcomes. The Assistant Dean serves as a key resource and mentor for faculty and students who are interested in pursuing research and scholarship related to medical education.  The Assistant Dean may also collaborate with other medical education researchers outside of the school (including within the larger Kaiser Permanente system) on multi-center medical education research.




Essential Responsibilities:



  1. Develop a program of and conduct original research in medical education.

  2. Disseminate research through national presentations and publications.

  3. Procure external grants and contracts to support educational research activities.

  4. Teach and mentor students and faculty in educational research and scholarship, including study design; analysis of quantitative and qualitative data; and dissemination of results.

  5. Collaborate on research projects and provide guidance in research methodology and statistical analyses (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods) with other KPSOM faculty and students pursuing studies in medical education.


Basic Qualifications:

 


Experience



  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in health sciences education with direct involvement in educational research and program evaluation.

     



Education



  • PhD or EdD degree in health sciences education, educational measurement, psychology (cognitive, educational or psychometric/quantitative), health services research, sociology, or a related field, or equivalent in education and experience.

     



License, Certification, Registration



  • N/A

     



Additional Requirements:



  • A strong track record of grant-research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Ability to mentor health professions students (and potentially residents and fellows) and faculty in educational research and scholarship.

  • Ability to lead proposal writing for externally funded grants in support of the medical education research program.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for multi-disciplinary team collaboration

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

     



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of competency-based medical education, learner assessment, and curriculum design.

  • Leadership skills, including visioning, planning, and performance appraisal.
