As an integral member of the KP School of Medicine Dean's Office, the Board Services Consultant manages all support services to the Board of Directors and its committees, including meeting planning, agenda development, minute-taking, tracking committee workflow and assignments, and other Board-related logistics.  This position also manages the development and maintenance of the KPSOM policy library, including oversight of policy development and review processes across the School's disciplines.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage all activity and coordination of work related to Board Services, including the development of and management of timelines and action items.

  • Provide daily oversight to staff supporting the Board of Directors.

  • Design processes and mechanisms to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Board's workflow.

  • Provide decision support and analysis in conducting research for the Board's policy decision processes.

  • Frame complex issues for Board members' consideration and decision-making.

  • Complete analyses and recommendations for review by leadership.

  • Oversee the logistics of in-person Board meetings, including room scheduling and set-up.

  • Oversee record-keeping in compliance with the Board's policy.

  • Take meeting minutes, as needed.

  • Oversee and prepare materials for Board and committee meetings, including agendas.

  • Coordinate Board committee work and serve as liaison between committee leadership, staff with Board and School leadership.

  • Manage the process for developing, updating, and archiving all KPSOM policies.

  • Solicit input from subject matter experts, determine appropriate policy owners, coordinate with compliance and legal counsel to draft policies.

  • Oversee the work of staff supporting policy development and management.

  • Plan, oversee, and execute major projects and special events for the Dean's Office

  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience, working with a leadership team or related role with executives or directors/trustees in a complex environment.


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

License, Certification, Registration

    • Ability to work within a complex organizational structure and continuously manage competing needs.

    • Strong project management skills.

    • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

    • Excellent problem-solving and experience collaborating with other professions.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems/applications.

    • Demonstrated experience working with leadership and executives.

    • Experience supervising employees.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum five years (5) of project or program management experience, preferably in a non-profit, health care, or education environment.

    • Experience working with a Board of Directors in a non-profit organization.

    • Master's degree in a related field.
