Compensation Consultant

Description: Consults with Human Resources Leaders, Human Resources Consultants, Staffing Services and compensation decision makers on salary determination issues. Administrates all compensation programs including base, variable, and performance management systems. Participates in the design and implementation of new programs and systems.

Essential Functions:
  • Consults with compensation decision makers on salary determination issues which will focus on the linkage between outcomes and competencies to total compensation. This includes new hires, promotions,
    transfers, laterals, and various other situations.
  • Coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and reports on base salary, variable pay, and performance management system.
  • Assists with the implementation of all compensation programs.
  • Uses published surveys to evaluate jobs to determine appropriate market range. Based on information supplied from compensation decision makers prepares simplified job descriptions and career ladder descriptions.
  • Coaches/guides line management in the resolution of position design and departmental structure issues.
  • Assists compensation decision makers with slotting of non-benchmark positions.
  • Participates in third party published surveys.
  • Educates Human Resources Leaders, Human Resources Consultants, Staffing Services and compensation decision makers on the utilization of competitive salary information.
  • Consults with compensation decision makers to ensure that the appropriate market data is being utilized as the basis for the development of Kaiser Permanente's salary structures.
  • Educates, mentors, and trains all Human Resources staff on compensation practices and programs.

  • Basic Qualifications:
    Experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of previous progressive compensation experience required.
    Education
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
    License, Certification, Registration
  • N/A.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of total compensation practices.
  • Analytical and project management skills.
  • Consulting and facilitation skills.
  • Proficient with PC applications.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Compensation Professional designation preferred.
