The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine is
devoted first and foremost to offering an outstanding, forward-thinking medical

The Technology Services department within the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine supports the technology needs of all students, faculty, staff, administrators, leaders and board members at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine (KPSOM).  The incumbent may serve as the designated liaison support between KP IT, the Technology Services team and the Board and Senior Leaders of the School.
The Technology Consultant provides support for audio/visual functions, device setup and configuration, and IT security and compliance. This position provides expert advice and support on campus by implementing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware and software on desktops, laptops, mobile devices, audio/visual equipment, and peripheral devices. The Technology Consultant will also help strategize and manage change with regards to new technology and contribute to training students and employees on systems and hardware. This position reports directly to the KPSOM Director of Technology Services and works with KP-IT partners to coordinate KPSOM usage of KP-issued systems and hardware.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provides expert assistance, and strategizes and implements technical solutions for KPSOM students, faculty, staff, administrators, and board members.
  • Acts as a primary technical support (software, hardware, and networking) for the KPSOM. Analyzes and responds to complex hardware, software, and integration needs. Supports specialized applications, audio/visual components, printers, collaboration devices, and specialized network functions.
  • Works with KP-IT to provide support for KP-owned software when specific configurations are necessary in order for software to work properly.
  • Acts as a point of contact for technology-related issues that require expert knowledge or decision-making to help determine their causes and provide optimal solutions. The IT Consultant will communicate information to personnel and students, and assist in determining the best course of action for end user support.
  • Supports the communication of all KP-IT and vendor changes and outages to the KPSOM campus. This includes notifications about new and decommissioned services as well as planned and unplanned system outages.
  • Designs and facilitates technical training programs for KPSOM students, faculty, staff, administrators, and board members.
  • Manages and designs procedures and workflows related to the identification, prioritization, and resolution of end-user support requests.
  • Ensures that all devices are set up to meet requirements provided by KPSOM IT security principles. This involves informing and changing the process for building all new computers and updating monthly images to ensure that all new security updates are installed.
  • Approves and determines proper software to be installed for all KP-issued devices.
  • Basic Qualifications:
    Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year of IT experience OR Microsoft certification (e.g., A+, MCP, MCSE, etc.) related to IT support.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working for a higher education organization.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working for an IT organization or department.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working on project or technical teams.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience writing documentation or standard operating procedures related to IT operations and support.
