Senior Manager, Data Stewardship

This senior manager level position is primarily responsible for managing vendor-related data, strategic data-informed decisions, managing the data sourcing strategy, and managing interpretation of data analyses supporting the Vendor Risk & Data Office. The position manages analytic product support efforts, manages access, data delivery, and data system changes, and manages maintenance of data quality to standard.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Pursues professional growth and provides developmental opportunities for others by soliciting and acting on performance feedback; building collaborative, cross-functional relationships; hiring, training, and developing talent for growth opportunities; delegating tasks and decisions; fostering open dialogue amongst departments; strategically evaluating talent for succession planning; setting performance management guidelines and expectations across units; and working closely with employees to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to drive performance improvement.
  • Manages the Vendor Risk and Data Office by translating business plans into tactical action items; communicating goals and objectives; ensuring all policies and procedures are followed; overseeing the completion of work assignments; assuming responsibility for decision making; aligning team efforts; building accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; incorporating resources, costs, and forecasts into unit plans; removing obstacles that impact performance; guiding performance and developing contingency plans accordingly; partnering with key stakeholders and business leaders to ensure products and/or services meet requirements and expectations while aligning with departmental strategies; and influencing units to operate in alignment with business objectives.
  • Manages analytic product support efforts by overseeing testing design, execution, and peer code reviews; triaging and prioritizing data system changes or modifications; and informing the developing common business rules.
  • Manages access, data delivery, and data system changes by managing data control business processes for multiple data domains or elements to achieve system integrity and consistency; assessing and maintaining strategies that reduce data redundancies and increase data consistency; establishing policies and procedures; creating and maintaining data reference materials; and ensuring data security protocols and standards are followed.
  • Manages maintenance of data quality to standard by reviewing data elements; establishing and approving policies and procedures related to the collection and accuracy of data; establishing data quality standards; overseeing user acceptance testing on data systems; partnering to identify database maintenance enhancements; profiling data inaccuracies; and reviewing ad prioritizing recommended process improvements or system changes to enhance overall quality of the data.
  • Manages the data sourcing strategy by establishing a means to identify and represent content; working with business stakeholders, data visualization specialists and/or data scientists to determine analytics data consumption mechanisms; determining optimal data storage lifecycle; ensuring data are packaged in a way to be reused and shared; ensuring adherence to data rules and access guidelines; determining best strategy for combining data residing in disparate systems into a unified, consistent data view; recommending optimal approaches based on analytics requirements; establishing, managing, and communicating information policies and mechanisms for effective data usage; and ensuring the data strategy is aligned with and informed by the analytic strategy.
  • Manages strategic data-informed decisions by partnering with senior-level clients and executive leadership to identify and clarify key business needs; managing the development of outcomes and process measures; reviewing the translation of business requirements; determining data and information needs; reviewing data collection methods; advising on the development of analysis plans; consulting on analytic tool engagement; collaborating with clients and staff to identify opportunities and methods to improve efficiencies with data sourcing and access; and reviewing documentation of processes and deliverables.
  • Manages interpretation of data analyses by reviewing the application of findings to contextual settings; and providing guidance on the development of insights, reports, and presentations telling a compelling story to stakeholders to enable and influence decision making.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in data analytics or a directly related field, including at least four (4) years as a data steward.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with ERP systems (preferably PeopleSoft/Oracle).
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience with Vendor Master/Portal software.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, social/physical/life science, business, or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • License, Certification, Registration

  • Software sourcing and implementation experience.

    • Two
      (2) years experience in transition or change management implementation
    • Four
      (4) years experience working in a matrixed organization preferred.

      (1) year experience managing operational or project budgets preferred.

      (2) years experience working with statistical analysis software preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience working with Access preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience working with Excel preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience leading data governance initiatives preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience working with cloud database services (e.g., Microsoft
      Azure) preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years text analytics experience preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years data simulation experience preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years network analysis experience preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience leading Master Data Management (MDM) initiatives
    • Three
      (3) years supervisory experience preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience working with quality management and data profiling
      tools preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience working with data visualization tools preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience working with business intelligence tools preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years experience delivering presentations to senior management
    • Two
      (2) years experience in process improvement preferred.
    • Two
      (2) years relational database experience preferred.

      (4) years project management experience preferred.
    • Master's
      degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering,
      Social/Physical/Life Science, Business, or related field preferred.
    • Accredited
      Project Management Certification preferred.
