Account Senior Consultant

Description: Coordinate marketing, account management and group service activities across a specified geographical location for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington's most prominent, strategic and complex large group client base in order to meet or exceed membership growth and profitability targets. May negotiate and renew special population programs. Lead product line management functions to meet contractual reporting requirements and the timely resolution of client inquiries and complaints. Ensure department staff receive necessary information about client issues. Assist in planning marketing campaigns. Plan and manage open enrollment and benefit fair activities and coordinate the annual client bid process. Monitor competitor activities and assist in developing membership forecasts, rating and program evaluation.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Ensures the negotiation and renewal of group contract and special populations/programs. Meets membership/ revenue forecasts for highly sensitive/complex groups by developing relationships with key decision makers and implementing renewal strategies.
  • Develops marketing strategies and implements plans to ensure health plan programs/products/ group contracts meet client needs and divisional revenue/membership targets, on a long & short term basis.
  • Provides leadership and ensures efficient functioning of a self-directed sales & marketing team. Facilitates and/or coordinates work team activities. Represents & promotes GH in community activities supporting policy development by participating in and presenting to professional insurance associations, different associations and professional trade organizations.
  • Represents & promotes a marketplace perspective to KFHPW managers & leadership by reporting market trends & recommending and assisting in the development of program policies.
  • Maintains an expert knowledge of the health care industry and state & federal laws impacting GH. Attends training programs, seminars, association meetings, and/or educational courses.

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience providing account management activities for major client groups or sales experience in the sales and marketing of health insurance or employee benefits.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of in HMO/insurance industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in health care or business administration, marketing, labor relations OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
    License, Certification, Registration
  • Washington State Health Insurance license or ablity to obtain within three (3) months from date of hire/transfer.

    Additional Requirements:
  • PC window-based applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of selling and marketing managed care services, insurance industry, HMO and state and federal regulations, employee benefits and health care industry, rating and underwriting principles and guidelines, marketing and sales principles, strategic sales planning techniques and local competitors, agents/consultants and labor market.
  • Thorough understanding of Kaiser Permanente WA's national account program and local delivery systems.
  • Working knowledge of self-directed sales teams.
  • Ability to influence decision making of various businesses and personalities, speak in a public setting and professionally present information, achieve individual goals and targets, lead self-directed sales teams and work groups. Proficient with corporate sales force automation systems. Interpersonal, communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, analytical, problem solving, project management and time management skills.
