Description:
Leads cross-functional teams to develop strategies to meet corporate financial performance and growth goals and other key metrics for Lines of Business (LOBs) or product categories and to manage ongoing product performance. Drives the analysis, development, implementation and monitoring of new and existing products and services. Teams with project managers to ensure timely implementation of new or enhanced products and services. Monitors regulatory/legislative activity and mandates and their impact on products, services and LOBs. Manages relationships with vendors and other carriers that provide coverage or services that support or supplement product offerings. Applies lean principles to product development and management activities to problem solve, address market opportunities, resolve internal process issues, and improve customer experience and value relating to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington products and services. May supervise or train staff.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads teams of departmental resources and key cross-functional stakeholders to develop, implement, and monitor all activity affecting a product category and/or line of business. Develops metrics, reporting, and insights that drive team to implement needed changes that address performance, opportunities, and issues. Communicates teams' recommendations to senior leaders for review and approval in concert with business strategies
  • Serves as an evangelist for products, services, and LOBs. Represents the product/service/LOB internally with leadership and serves as the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington expert to represent products with key clients or producers. Develops and communicates the product value proposition and our unique selling position. Leads training of internal and external stakeholders and assures that materials/communications accurately reflect features and value proposition. Coordinates activities of product or project-specific cross-functional work teams; serves as liaison between product management and all levels of staff to assure ongoing effective administration of products.
  • Manages vendor relationships associated with features or supplemental products (e.g. CDHP administrators, carriers of private labeled insurance lines.) Provides consulting expertise to managers throughout the company on product features and manages implementation of enhancements as needed. Leads team to stay abreast of industry trends, developments and regulatory changes and mandates related to product features.
  • Leads development of proposals for new and innovative product/service concepts to accomplish corporate or LOB goals, address market opportunities or issues in order to support review by senior management and prioritizization against other resource demands.
  • Works with lean consultant resources and key operational leaders in support of strategic improvement activities as they translate into the value stream and functional areas. Functions as an interface across divisional and district lines to facilitate coordinated product strategies. Partners with Lean consultants in the development, stabilization and improvement of departmental processes and standard tools. May include supervision of product specialist.

  • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years years of experience in new product development or business management.
    Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business/ health care admin, or related field required OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) is required.

    Additional Requirements:

  • Previous project management or product administration experience.
  • Advanced critical thinking, organizational decision making, problem solving, interpersonal, presentation and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • MS Office Suite skills.


    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience in a health care or insurance organization in a product management position with supervisiory experience.
  • Experience with Lean management systems.
  • Well-versed in the principles of product development, health plan operations and health insurance.
  • Excellent group facilitation/group process management and project management skills.


  • Master's degree in business administration and health administration preferred.
