Infection Prevention and Control Regional Manager - Rockville Regional Office

Description: Update and maintain the Regional Infection Control program and functions including supervising the Infection Preventionists. Works with the Senior Dir, HPDSO & Regional Nurse for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving all Infection Control activities across the continuum of care in the KP Mid-Atlantic States Region.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • In partnership with the Senior Dir, HPDSO & Regional Nurseand the designated Physician leads for Infection Control, ensures that an effective program is in place for the Infection Prevention and Control Program that encompasses the scope of services provided in the Region and links to the organizational strategic plan, overseeing the regional program and the Infection Preventionists, and collaborating with EH&S programs.
  • Collaborates with and makes recommendations to Delivery System leaders of the medical office buildings, Hubs and ambulatory surgery centers to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies and requirements.
  • Ensures that all related policies and procedures are updated, current, maintained, complete, and readily accessible within the medical office buildings, Hubs and ambulatory surgery centers, as well as in-serviced to all applicable staff.
  • Through strategic planning, expert leadership and consultation with regional & national leaders, identifies and implements the infection prevention and control program goals and objectives with an emphasis on proactive programming related to: surveillance, data analysis and reporting, infection prevention and control, prevention & practices that eliminate potential hazards for members/ patients, families, physicians, staff, and visitors.
  • Ensures appropriate selection and usage of products and equipment related to cleaning, antisepsis, disinfection, and sterilization are followed and practiced within MAS.
  • Develops, oversees and implements all educational programs designed to reduce and/or prevent infections; and identify those cases that do occur timely with appropriate remediation to reduce exposure to other members/patients and/or staff.

  • Coordinates the surveillance activities for the employee health/infection control nurses and other Delivery System clinical staff in collaboration with the EH&S or other appropriate clinical Director, by providing in-services, on-going education, and oversight direction to ensure consistent practices across the Region.
  • Coordinates the tracking and trending of employee infectious illnesses, infection control issues, to increase identification of trends with appropriate interventions, required reporting and ongoing monitoring.
  • Ensures that appropriate & effective corrective action plans (CAPs) are developed, implemented and reported as indicated, escalating to senior leadership when appropriate.
  • Coordinates promotion of infection control and employee health programs via newsletters, internet sites, staff education, and other methods.
  • Facilitates critical liaisons with the Service Areas to secure participation in planning and to ensure region wide implementation of quality initiatives. Monitors and measures effectiveness and outcomes as Service Areas operationalize quality initiatives, best practices, and guidelines.

  • Basic Qualifications:
    Experience
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience or combination of experience in an acute care hospital or ambulatory setting with knowledge of medical and surgical procedures, treatments, and patient management.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant clinical experience in infection control and/or employee health programs, preferably in managed care system setting.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory/managerial experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in accreditation &/or regulatory experience and familiarity with applicable standards required; i.e. NCQA, TJC, AAAHC, multi-state/ jurisdictional laws & regulations required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with PC based applications, risk adjustment and clinical information systems required.
    Education
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing, Medical Technology or other health science required OR currently enrolled in such program working towards a Bachelors degree or higher to include MPH or MSN.
    License, Certification, Registration
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc (CBIC) required within one year of employment.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing major projects on time and within budget required.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing on complex strategy required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills required.
  • Proficient in computer applications including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS Visio.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Skills in problem-solving and collaboration with other professions/ disciplines required.
  • Skill and experience in organizational change management required.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, environmental health, microbiology, nursing, or other health care related field preferred.
  • Valid RN license in DC or a compact state (MD or VA) preferred if employee has nursing degree.
  • Broad & complete knowledge and understanding of health care delivery in an ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Completion of APIC or SHEA infection control or epidemiology course preferred.
  • Previous leadership in regards to accreditation &/or regulatory surveys preferred.
