Assistant Department Manager, RN - Perioperative Services

Description: As a member of the perioperative leadership team, the role of the Performance Improvement (PI) Facilitator is designed to assist leaders and staff in applying the scientific method of Performance Improvement to current and future value based projects. This role Provides high quality and cost effective project management, management consulting, and analytic support services or technical expertise in the area of PI/LEAN methodology. This role also has responsibility for large complex PI projects within the perioperative service line and across other clinical areas as needed. The facilitator reports directly to the Perioperative director and receives direction from the Performance Improvement/LEAN workgroup


Essential Functions:

  • Leads, makes significant contributions, and/or provides technical leadership to high visibility projects to identify and resolve issues of strategic importance to the organization.
  • Interfaces regularly with senior management to produce timely and valuable results.
  • Sets the strategic direction of projects and determines goals and priorities with management team sponsors.
  • Establishes team membership and negotiates time commitments and resources.
  • Develops proposals for clients outlining proposed project structure, approach and work plan.
  • Provides leadership for project teams, as well as manages work of outside consultants when needed.
  • Designs PI plans and analysis and supports the use of PI tools across area of influence.
  • Produces or oversees development of written materials for service line leaders and other key clients.
  • Plans and facilitates meetings and makes formal presentations to various senior level audiences.
  • Assists, as needed, in planning and coordinating with other ongoing teams and projects to maximize effectiveness.
  • Participates in the development and management of the department, including coaching, recruiting, conducting performance reviews for consultants/analysts, and other departmental activities.
  • Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. At any time, Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status.   • Basic Qualifications:

    Experience
  • N/A
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
    License, Certification, Registration
  • Current California RN license required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • PALS certification may be required for positions in specific departments.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement, clinical care delivery processes, staffing, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a labor/management partnership environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • ALCS certification strongly preferred.



    Education

  • Master's degree strongly preferred
  • LEAN/PI training; Improvement advisor certification
  • LEAN/ Six- Sigma certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience as assistant RN manager in ASU or acute Perioperative setting; or 3-5 years of experience as RN supervisor/charge RN in acute perioperative setting.
