In collaboration with research operational leadership, provides database, programming, reporting design, and technical support for research operations and administration needs. This individual works with operational staff and leadership to conceptualize projects and recommend approaches that make best use of available technology. Leads management on operational projects involving IT and operational reporting needs. Acts as a source of technical knowledge to staff, promoting the use of new systems, technologies, and solutions to support research operations. As a manager, this individual supervises staff by evaluating performance, ensuring compliance with KP policies and procedures, and directing work. In coordination with the Director of Research IT, assists in the implementation of administrative and operational priorities and initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical leadership on operational research IT systems. Works with operational staff to determine requirements. Assists in problem definition and resolution. Uses knowledge of systems and technology to recommend solutions. Designs programs, systems, and databases to support operations.
  • Supervises IT staff. Makes hiring decisions; provides performance management; delegating work; provides quality assurance. Plans workflow and negotiates needs and expectations in collaboration with operational leaders and staff so that all parties understand deadlines and deliverables. Provides realistic estimates of scope and of programmer and computing resources needed on projects.
  • Trains and provides consultation to direct reports and other KPWHRI staff. Ensures documentation and user information are up to date; encourages project teams to use appropriate new technologies, systems, and procedures.
  • Assists Director of Research IT in design and implementation of administrative and operational priorities related to IT policies and procedures.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in IT programming in a comparable environment.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • License, Certification, Registration

  • Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff and to foster a cooperative work environment; strong communication & negotiation skills; strong organization & project management skills.
  • Expertise in programming using databases and systems; understanding of computer programming languages & design concepts.
  • Strong logic and analytic ability.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ten (10) years of experience in programming in a comparable environment.
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising staff. 
  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in a grant funded health care research environment 
  • Past experience with technologes such as SAS, Python, Teradata, and SQL Server 
  • Knoweldge of product development lifecycles
  • Experience in data warehouse environment
  • Experience with matrixed management 
  • Knowledge in principles of data integrity, integration, and quality of complex systems
  • Demonstrated effective communication and collaboration across a broad set of stakeholders including external partnerships
