Under the Direction of the Senior Manager Central Pharmacy Business and Support Services, responsible for the leadership, oversight and management of the Automated Refill Center (mail order) pharmacy operations to ensure caring, comprehensive, efficient, economical and consistently high-quality services. This position consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to the applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of the Automated Refill Center (ARC) to assure consistent high levels of performance in pharmaceutical care, customer service, and operations across all outpatient pharmacies.
  • Functions in a direct supervisory role in the ARC, directly coaching, mentoring and providing feedback to pharmacy personnel. Supports and resolves daily operational problems and performs general duties of a pharmacist as required
  • Oversees workflow processes and coordinates activities of leads, assistant Supervisors, pharmacists and support personnel to include appropriate scheduling of personnel to meet customer service demands, productivity levels, performance and quality objectives.
  •  Responsible for communicating service, performance and quality assurance expectations and setting goals with staff in the ARC that are consistent with department, regional and national goals and objectives
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating existing service levels, productivity, systems, procedures and practices and recommends appropriate changes or additions and provides consistent reporting to Pharmacy Leadership.
  • Engages in creative problem-solving, strategic thinking and conflict resolution
  • Responsible for ARC financial goals to include payroll, non- payroll, COGS and physical inventory variances. Monitor performance against budgets and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Ensures appropriate resource utilization, consistent operations, and scope of services provided, with monitoring of performance aagainst operating plans, and adjustments implemented as necessary and appropriate.
  • Facilitate the rapid adoption and assimilation of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, technology, and operational systems which improve pharmacy service, quality, and productivity in the ARC consistent with regional and national strategy.
  • Supports development and implements policies and procedures relating to pharmacy mail order operations and professional practice standards; provides support in the development and assures implementation of departmental initiatives consistent with program goals and objectives.
  • Interviews, selects, orients, instructs, counsels, evaluates, and manages performance of pharmacy personnel; reviews and approves performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and other issues.
  • Works collaboratively with pharmacy management to further develop supervisory skills and assume additional management responsibility
  • Provide leadership and direction to assure compliance with Pharmacy law, regulation, business practices, accreditation standards, and other Kaiser Permanente policies. Assures compliance to all regulatory rules and regulations and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures and professional practice standards which include but are not limited to: Drug Enforcement Administration, State Boards of Pharmacy, HIPAA, Principles of Responsibility, Proper use of Kaiser Permanente personal computers and applications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum one (1) year of personnel management/supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a pharmacist in Virginia or another jurisdiction in the United States required.
  • Education
  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or PharmD required.
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • Pharmacy license in Virginia.
  • Licensure in MD and District of Columbia required within 120 days of employment.

  • Additional Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Access, Word, and Power Point required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required.
  • Strong analytical skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with pharmacy operational workflows and inventory management required.
  • Licensure in all states where PIC is required to be licensed per the mail order pharmacy non-resident license requirements within 2 years of employment - 25% of states completed in 6 months, 50% of states completed in 12 months, 75% of states completed in 18 months and 100% of states completed in 24 months.
  • New states requiring licensure for Non-Resident license are required to be completed within 90 days of notification.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years experience with Kaiser Permanente preferred.
  • Previous experience in a mail order pharmacy preferred.
  • Previous experience with high volume automated technology preferred.
