Description:
Ensures team's commitment to timely and accurate processing of accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP, MHS/KP policies and procedures, and internal controls. Manages month end close activities including communication of risks and opportunities to the Chief Financial Officer. Manages accounting team performance. Sets specific performance goals for each team member. Measures accomplishments to pre-established goals. Makes all staffing decisions. Maintains business partnerships with other departments, locations and regions to keep informed of new business initiatives. Assesses future impact of new initiatives to accounting team. Manages accounting analyses of balance sheet and P&L transactions. Manages, plans and coordinates activities of accounting team Coordinates the research and preparation of technical accounting solutions for new and existing complex business issues. Develops and fosters business partnerships with internal customers/suppliers. Identifies and implements productivity and process improvements. Develops and implements system and procedural control enhancements. Develops and implements system and procedural changes to eliminate manual processes and increase team productivity. Participates in the development and maintenance of General Accounting Policy and Procedure manuals in coordination with Financial Reporting. Ensures company adherence to policies and procedures. Manages timely and accurate reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Manages preparation of interim and year-end audit schedules. Coordinates audit activities with external auditors. Prepares responses for internal and external audit recommendations/comments. Promotes a team environment and provides work direction and guidance including coaching, professional development, and training for the team.
Minimum five (5) years accounting experience. Minimum two (2) years management experience Bachelor's degree in accounting OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. N/A
Working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls. Previous managerial/supervisory experience required. Strong Excel, Access, and PowerPoint skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, presentation, organizational, facilitation, analytical and staff development skills. Strong understanding of fundamental accounting transaction flows including system interfaces. Financial and accounting report writing skills required. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Process improvement/project management experience preferred. Mainframe G/L experience. Master's degree preferred. CPA preferred.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the basis for accurate financial statement reporting and proper recording of financial transactions in the general ledger. Other responsibilities include managing the accounting teams, providing accounting leadership and direction, and preparing recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. This position will also take the lead for accounting related system project initiatives (relative to the specific area of responsibility), and will coordinate accounting transaction handling with other departments, locations, and regions.
