Director Rehabilitation Services

Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates rehabilitation services in a variety of settings to Maui Health System (MHS) goals are met. Coordinates all professional aspects of the service with Medical Liaison and/or Administration.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directs rehabilitation services (inpatient and outpatient) and programs to deliver high quality, cost effective care to achieve service excellence.

  • Develops programs to meet current and future needs.

  • Reviews service performance, effects changes as needed to improve services and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Develops goals and objectives, establishes and implements policies and procedures for operations.

  • Hires, trains and manages clinical and non-clinical personnel.

  • Develops standards of behavioral performance and clinical competencies.

  • Evaluates personnel based on established standards and competencies.

  • Creates, analyzes, and maintains reports and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.

  • Develops and recommends service operating and capital budgets, and ensures that the services operate within the allocated funds.

  • Has authority for budgetary expenditures.

  • Develops rehabilitation services to meet the needs of MHS patient population.

  • Manages resources to meet customer needs.

  • Develops and implements performance improvement programs.

  • Monitors and assesses programs and reports to Quality stakeholders as requested.

  • Establishes and maintains communications with multiple departments locally and regionally.

  • Develops relationships with academic programs, the community, and other groups.

  • Provides direct patient care services as needed.

  • Ensures ongoing professional development for self, clinical staff, support staff, and student affiliates.

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the criteria for professional practice.

  • MHS conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis.  At any time, reserves the right reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status.  Such changes are generally implemented only after notice is given to affected employees.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in a clinical rehabilitation services setting required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in program development, staffing, including disciplinary action and termination, and budgeting required.
  • Education
  • Graduate of an accredited physical or occupational therapy or speech language pathologist curriculum with a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree or foreign-trained equivalent.
  • License, Certification, Registration
  • Licensure to practice physical or occupational therapy or speech language pathology by the State of Hawaii by date of hire.
  • Must have a Nat'l Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date.
  • BLS required.

  • Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of previous management experience in a union environment. 
  • Master's business administration or related field preferred.

    Physical And Occupational Therapists

    Kaiser Permanente offers full-time, part-time, per diem, and in-house registry opportunities in a variety of practice settings, including home health, inpatient, and outpatient. Additional opportunities include occupational therapist, physical therapist, and licensed physical therapist assistant.

    Respiratory Care

    At Kaiser Permanente, Respiratory Care Practitioners are an integral part of our respected health care team. They are responsible for developing patient treatment plans and have the opportunity to work in a variety of exciting and challenging areas from adult critical care to cardiology to high-risk delivery. Our Respiratory Care Practitioners have the advantage of computerized state-of-the-art equipment, including life support systems, arterial blood gas analyzers, and non-invasive monitors.

    Speech Pathology

    Kaiser Permanente's speech pathologists provide direct patient care to members with communication and swallowing disorders by evaluating, diagnosing, developing, and implementing therapy and treatment programs.


    Our audiology professionals are a vital part of our rehab care team. They provide direction, counseling, and recommendations regarding the rehabilitation of hearing impaired patients.
