Description:
Job Summary:

Performs all aspects of pulmonary function testing, scheduling patients for test, coaching patient to achieve valid test results, administering bronchodilators, preparing reports for physician interpretation, and properly documenting test charges.  Assists with other pulmonary tests,  and performs other tests. Maintains equipment in safe and proper working order.  Serves as a resource, providing instruction and education to patients and staff, and assists with procedure writing.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Schedules and performs pulmonary function tests, including lung volumes, flow volume loops, diffusing capacity, bronchodilator administration, and MVV.  Effectively coaches patient through test to assure patients best effort. Serves as a resource.  Instructs peripheral clinic staff on use of spirometer including proper documentation and processing of reports. Assists with other pulmonary tests and performs other tests.

  • Maintains and prepares documentation and equipment related to pulmonary function testing.  Prepares report for physician interpretation; processes finalized report.  Properly documents and submits charge capture information for test.  Maintains equipment in proper working order and reprocesses reusable supplies in accordance with Sterile Processing Department standards.  Troubleshoots equipment failure and refers to Biomed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum six (6) months pulmonary function testing, respiratory therapist, or related experience.

Education

  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy; or two (2) years of directly related experience.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Respiratory Therapist License (Hawaii)
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification Examination for Entry-Level Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registry Examination for Advanced Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential with the NBRC.
  • Minimum (1) one year pulmonary function testing or respiratory therapist experience.
