UBT Performance Improvement (GA Region)
The UBT Consultant works under the direction of the Alliance of Health Care Unions and Kaiser Permanente Co-Leads for the Labor Management Partnership (LMP) programs and the UBT Program Manager in the Georgia market. Following the guidelines for the Path to Performance (P2P) found in the National KP-Alliance Agreement, the Unit Based Team (UBT) Consultant is responsible for: launching and support UBTs, attending UBT meetings, coaching and mentoring team members, providing training and resources for teams, assisting teams in trouble-shooting barriers, and documenting team progress. UBT Consultants work with front line union members, non-represented staff, physicians, and managers to help build cohesive front-line teams and teach them Performance Improvement tools. In addition, UBT Consultants work closely with KP and union leaders to ensure leadership support for UBTs. The UBTs are a key component of the Labor-Management Partnership and UBT Consultants can directly impact its success. This position will be filled by a member of UFCW Local 1996 who will be on a Special Assignment Agreement (SAA), a leave of absence from their regular position at Kaiser Permanente. This is a one-year position full-time position which can be renewed annually with consensus approval of leadership parties, up to a maximum of three years. The UBT Consultant will return to their same or similar position at the end of their Special Assignment role.
- Attend UBT meetings in person and via TEAMS, visits departments to check on team progress, communicate with teams and UBT Sponsors via email, in person and by phone.
- Work with KP and Union leadership (UBT Sponsors) and the UBTs to successfully implement performance improvement (PI) projects, strategize for overcoming barriers, and plan support and engagement events (i.e., UBT Summits).
- Launch new UBTs and provide mentoring, coaching, and training in performance improvement methodologies and tools as well as Labor Management Partnership behaviors.
- Collaborate with UBT Resource Team to develop consistent workflows and processes for team development and to problem-solve team barriers and challenges.
- Collaborate with UBT Resource Team to develop and deliver UBT related trainings.
- Collaborate with other KPGA departments to further performance improvement initiatives and partnership in the region.
- Provide regular status updates for all project and non-project work.
- Document team progress and efforts in UBT Tracker, transfer documentation skills to teams as appropriate, and ensure that documentation is completed.
- Assist Unit-Based Teams in interpretation of performance improvement data.
- Attend regular meetings of the UBT Resource Team and other forums as requested.
- Coordinate and facilitate performance improvement or other LMP training programs (virtual or in person) and lead presentations at UBT and other meetings.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in meeting facilitation (e.g., use of agendas, minutes, flip charting, brainstorming) required.
- Associates degree in any field of study OR two (2) years of experience in a directly related field.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

- Familiarity with unions.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills Self-directed, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple teams and projects.
- Occasional weekend and evening assignments required.
- Maintain objectivity and neutrality in UBT work.
- Interest in furthering the implementation of the National Agreements and LMP processes.
- Knowledge and use of the behaviors necessary to drive performance improvement at the work unit level, and ability to transfer the proper use of performance improvement tools and processes to the team to sustain the work.
- Ability to assess and design interventions to address barriers, including conflicts, to effective team engagement and performance improvement.
- Ability to build and foster effective working relationships with a broad range of individuals.
- Ability to work with labor and management as a neutral party.
- Must have own transportation for driving from location to location.
- Demonstrated computer skills to include email, MS Word, MS Excel, web-based software.
- Current or recent engagement in any Labor Management Partnership committee, activity, or role preferred.
- Experience speaking and presenting in front of groups preferred.
- Experience in LMP/ Partnership committees or workgroups (i.e., Workplace Safety, Total Health, Education and Training) preferred.
- Experience in performance improvement training preferred.
- Experience as a member or Co-Lead of a UBT preferred.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint preferred.
- Bachelors degree in any field of study OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
