Job Summary:

Decontaminates, cleans, packages, sterilizes, stores and distributes medical/surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with Title 22 requirements and Joint Commission standards. Fills requests from user areas.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Ensure equipment is available for end users: Receive and sort soiled instruments/equipment, soak, disassemble, clean and rinse, decontaminate as required.  Lubricate and perform routine preventative maintenance as required.  Set up crash and latex safe carts.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain clean work area. Check and restock emergency equipment. Prepare and process packs, supplies, equipment and instruments. Maintain sterilized supplies and equipment. Replace expendable parts on equipment. Check, test, and graph data form equipment such as sterilizers, incubators, etc. Perform computerize scanning, documentation, and tracking of equipment and instruments. Understands, operate and monitor various types of sterilization equipment. Maintain accurate and complete sterilization records. Train and orient new or less experienced personnel. Communicates relevant accomplishments and problems to the lead and/or manager.  Maintain current licensure/certificates. Follow standard infectious control procedures. Operate sterilizers.  Handle computer printouts. Record and maintain record of equipment usage. Prepare periodic workload statistics.  Fill request for equipment and supplies. Inventory and replenish equipment and supplies. Pick up soiled equipment/supplies from end users. Operate copier, computer and fax equipment. Record equipment malfunctions; maintain department logs, i.e. sterilization records and equipment usage. Request repair service for equipment. Attend conferences, meetings, and in-service training program. Maintain proficiency in technical/clinical skills. Answer and route telephone calls; locate personnel by paging system or beeper. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience

Working knowledge of Labor and Delivery Room instrumentation processing techniques, medical supplies, and proficiency in the following required: basic micro-biology, soaps and detergents, fundamentals of cleaning and packaging sterile supplies, steam sterilization, gas sterilization and aeration, quality assurance, infection control, isolation techniques and safe practices in Central Service. Class 4 arduous physical requirements involving frequent heavy lifting (over 25 lbs.) or pushing over 500 lbs. Often combined with bending, twisting, and long periods of time on the feet. Effective communication skills. Ability to distinguish colors and hear audible alarms required. OTHER: Will work in a collaborative labor-management environment, that results in a high performance work team.

  • One year experience in Central Service or comparable Operating Room Technician or Registered Central Service technician course with certification.
