CT Technologist
Under general supervision, operates radiographic equipment, including whole body CT scanners and radiographic equipment; develops x-ray images; maintains adequate records; assists physician in fluoroscopic examinations; operates portable x-ray equipment, and follows standard radiation and safety procedures.
- Patient Procedures and Activities. Explain test procedures and purpose. Demonstrate equipment for patient. Assist physician during minor surgical procedures, and in developing new techniques and procedures. Assist in obtaining tissue specimens. Assist provider in patient examinations and procedures. Follow standard infection control procedures. Lift patients. Modify treatment techniques which do not require change in physician orders. Monitor and evaluate test readings during procedures. Observe, monitor and evaluate patient condition during and after procedures. Prepare and position patients for diagnostic imaging tests.
- Respond to emergencies (i.e., stat pages, Code Blue) and stat requests. Shave and apply antiseptic solutions to patient skin areas. Transport patients to/from procedure area. Assist physician with fluoroscopic examinations. Assist in cardiovascular procedures. Print copy film, if applicable. Load and unload imaging film in radiology equipment. Mix and administer barium to patients.
- Perform whole body CT scans. Take radiographs. Assist physician with inpatient and outpatient pacemaker procedures. Perform radiation safety monitoring. Clean procedures room, and work area. Records patient Information. Review patient charts to evaluate patients and identify significant conditions. Compile data for Quality Assurance. Complete diagnostic examination requisitions, forms and records for pre-op work. Equipment and Instruments. Check emergency equipment. Restock supplies in examination rooms. Select and set out appropriate tubing and sterile supplies. Set up instruments and surgical trays. Operate radiographic, computed tomography- fluoroscopic, and portable x-ray equipment.
- Arrange for repair of imaging equipment. Inspect equipment and instruments for damage.
- Maintain equipment in good working order.
- Materials and Supplies. Fill requests for equipment and supplies. Maintain and order supplies. Dispose of expendable medical supplies, and of used syringes and contaminated materials properly. Inventory equipment and supplies. Maintain solutions, chemicals and automatic equipment. Replenish supplies and equipment. Maintain patient information material.
- Administrative and Other. Attend conferences, meetings and in-service training programs. Serve as resource person to co-workers by answering procedural questions and assisting in problem solving. Conduct in service training. Maintain current licensure/certifications, and proficiency in clinical skills.
- Other Activities and Responsibilities. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed. Performs other duties as required.
- Prepares, inserts IV, and administers the appropriate oral, intestinal and I.V. contrast media or as appropriate, assists the radiologist with I.V. Contrast administration.
- Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
- Archive images to PACS.
- indicated views required for standard projections.
- Observes all required radiation safety/protection regulations and standards to minimize dose and avoid/minimize repeat films. Uses lead shielding and collimation as appropriate. Critiques images for diagnostic qualities and other properties such as artifacts and appropriately consults with supervisor and/or radiologist to clarify any areas of uncertainty. Completes requisition with all required and pertinent information. Complies with all required continuing education standards.
- Provides training and orientation to new CT technologists and training of CT technologists.
- May perform other duties as required and assigned.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience within the last twelve (12) months in radiologic technology, including one (1) year of recent experience in Computed Tomography
- May substitute one (1) year CT experience with successful completion of the departments formal CT training program.
- Graduation from a JRCERT approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California) OR Certified Radiologic Technologist - Diagnostic Radiologic Technology Certificate (California)
Certified Radiologic Technologist - Fluoroscopy Certificate (California)
Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California)
Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- Basic Life Support
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to utilize the theories, principles, practices and techniques of radiologic technology.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and utilize the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of basic and advanced Computed Tomography imaging including clinical exams, physics, CT safety, cross-sectional anatomy and patient care.
- Three (3) years of clinical experience as an CT technologist, preferred.
Advanced Certification Computed Tomography issued by the ARRT (CT)
