Assistant, Endoscopy
Participates with the Health Care Team in delivering quality health care to patients in a manner which reflects Kaiser Permanentes mission, vision, and values while supporting the Labor Management Partnership (LMP) principles and practice. Provides support and assistance to the patient and Health Care team to promote population-based care, continuity of care, customer satisfaction, and self-care. Assumes timely duties in assisting the G.I./Endoscopy provider by performing specific responsibilities as they relate to preparation and maintenance of the equipment and supplies needed for the delivery of care.
- Clinical / Procedural:Assists staff nurse and physicians with Endoscopy procedures according to the current practice. Sets-up appropriate equipment for Endoscopy procedures and ensures necessary supplies are available. Collects, prepares, and labels specimens accurately during endoscopic procedure. Explains procedures and expected sensations to patient and provides instructions to ensure patient cooperation and to minimize physical and emotional discomfort during procedure. Participates in pre-procedure briefing and time out. Demonstrates cleaning, disinfecting, and storing of equipment used in the various Endoscopy procedures.
- Knowledge and Technology: Strong knowledge base in maintaining and using endoscopic instruments and accessories and understanding expensive and fragile equipment. Troubleshoots and recognizes malfunctions and takes appropriate action. Checks and maintains adequate supply level in the procedure rooms and the scope processing room. Assumes responsibility to continue personal improvement in knowledge and competency about professional and practice issues related to the field of endoscopy/gastroenterology. Acts as a resource person to other staff members and Kaiser personnel.
- Leadership: Plans and assists the Team Leader in implementing department programs and assists in re-designing these programs as necessary for maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Participates in unit Quality Assurance programs.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as G.I./Endoscopy Assistant or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training in endoscopic related procedures such as flexible sigmoidoscopy.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant course or LPN licensure.

- Requires good auditory and visual acuity and good manual dexterity.
- More than two (2) years directly working as a certified Endoscopy Assistant.
- Completion of G.I. Assistant SGNA modules.
