Director, Rehabilitation Services
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is also responsible for directing leaders of multidisciplinary teams in the provision of and/or providing rehabilitation services (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy); planning the allocation of resources for rehabilitation services (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) daily operations; proactively monitoring and driving rehabilitation services teams clinical competency in evidence-based care and compliance with all licensure and documentation requirements within a service area and/or across departments; providing strategic direction and support for rehabilitation services clinical initiatives and training and education programs; and championing collaborations with interdisciplinary teams and physicians on the clinical program development and implementation of rehabilitation services clinical practice and shared models of care.
- Prepares individuals for growth opportunities and advancement; builds internal collaborative networks for self and others. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; drives collaboration to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to foster performance improvement. Demonstrates continuous learning; oversees the recruitment, selection, and development of talent; ensures performance management guidelines and expectations to achieve business needs. - Oversees the operation of multiple units within a department by identifying member and operational needs; ensures the management of work assignment completion; translates business strategy into actionable business requirements; ensures products and/or services meet member requirements and expectations while aligning with organizational strategies. Gains cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; assumes responsibility for decision making; sets standards, measures progress, and fosters resolution of escalated issues. Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporates them into business plans; prioritizes and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; ensures teams accomplish business objectives.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise by: developing, influencing, and implementing clinical standards and protocols within a service area and/or across departments based on the latest research and industry developments with the goal of improving workflow efficiencies and patient outcomes across one or more medical center(s); shaping the development and implementation of evidence-based practice standards for one or more medical centers within a service area, and leading the monitoring and evaluation of related outcomes and providing oversight and recommending improvements on trainings to ensure adherence to evidence-based and medically necessary standards based on analysis of data across service areas; driving strategies to ensure ongoing professional development for clinical staff (e.g., training, education, mentorship opportunities) within a service area and/or across departments to promote continued growth and development in the field; and identifying external developments in the field of therapy services and providing opportunities to participate in educational and clinical development (e.g., quality improvement activities, continuing education courses, staff training) to maintain and enhance of competencies in professional practice within a service area and/or across departments.
- Leads teams in maintaining a safe and compliant care practice by: directing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within a service area and/or across departments, defining policies and procedures in alignment with external requirements and anticipating and proactively addressing compliance risks; identifying needs and purpose for regulatory and administrative reporting, sharing information from reports within a service area and/or across departments and using information to develop, implement, and drive strategy based on report findings; setting standards for identifying and mitigating potential risks to patient, staff, and member safety through the development and implementation of safety protocols that ensure safety and responding to and minimizing liability risks; implementing, evaluating, creating, and updating policies and procedures within a service area and/or across departments to ensure effective reporting and management of safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions, providing strategic guidance to prevent future incidents; and accountable for providing oversight and guidance on maintaining confidentiality and security for all patient, staff, and member records and information, promoting a culture of safety and fostering accountability, and ensuring continuous improvement in compliance and safety-related activities within the service area and/or across departments.
- Drives efficient and effective operations management by: planning allocation of resources (e.g., personnel, equipment) within a service area in alignment with financial targets and budget goals, ensuring achievement of service excellence while maximizing cost savings for the department; executing strategic decisions to improve processes that drive department resource management affordably and efficiently, which may include vendor and contract management; overseeing the analysis of performance metrics to assess performance within a service area and/or across departments, driving the development and implementation of data-driven solutions to enhance service delivery (e.g., quality, efficiencies, cost); and directing strategic planning, staffing, budget, and performance discussions within a service area and/or across departments, integrating critical information across areas to develop cohesive strategies that achieve business results and contribute to company reputation.
- Oversees patient care practices by: conducting and/or directing leaders of teams across departments to conduct comprehensive assessments of patient condition and needs, and creating new care pathways within a service area and/or across departments; forecasting trends in patient needs and preferences to contribute to the development and execution of multi-disciplinary, patient-centered care programs within a service area and/or across departments that align with organizational vision and objectives; integrating expert knowledge of patient safety and care practices across fields to design and implement industry-leading patient care programs within a service area and/or across departments that ensure safe administration of medications, procedures, and/or infection control; standardizing criteria for determining medical necessity and need for continued care based on rate of progress within a service area and/or across departments; championing a culture of patient advocacy and continuous assessment of patient needs within a service area and/or across departments; establishing guidelines for care plan modifications within a service area and/or across departments, serving as an expert resource for highly complex cases that require modifications to patient care; and aligning departmental discharge policies within a service area and/or across departments with current best practices and defined medically necessary care, identifying community resources for patient referrals to improve patient experiences after discharge from services.
- Leads service quality improvement initiatives by: driving strategy within a service area and/or across departments and leading the execution of region-wide initiatives to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of therapy services and coordination of care services; directing the resolution of highly complex service/care issues, unusual occurrences (UOs), and patient complaints/grievances within a service area and/or across departments, proactively preparing for emerging trends in patient concerns; ensuring the organization maintains a competitive position in the health care industry by maximizing access, improving efficiency, and maintaining quality outcomes of therapy services; driving collaboration with key stakeholders within a service area and/or across departments to drive organizational transformation, strive for consistency in a care model across the region, and promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence; and driving the development and implementation of new products and services that align with company goals, member needs, and emerging evidence and trends in health care within a service area and/or across departments, providing guidance on implementation and tracking impact on key performance indicators and other metrics.
- Masters degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy AND minimum eight (8) years of experience in clinical rehabilitation therapy or a directly related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
- Minimum three (3)years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
