This position is responsible for surgery scheduling in perioperative settings. The scheduler must efficient and effectively use the resources surrounding operative events by accurate and timely scheduling of cases, personnel and materials according to policies, procedures and guidelines. Scheduler must review perioperative data, to identify any gross inaccuracies and missing data elements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Performs specific scheduling data entry functions using OpTime.
* Keeps Surgery Schedule and Wait List updated daily adhering to the local turnaround policy.
* Maintains the privacy and confidentiality of both member and employee with regard to medical records and communications regarding disease, conditions and status.
* Performs assigned tasks that support safe, quality patient care delivery.
* Performs assigned tasks in an autonomous manner using sound judgment and decision making skills. Knows when to seek additional information.
* Prioritizes and performs several functions simultaneously and on a consistent basis.
* Updates and validates Wait List and Scheduling information continuously.
* Performs other related duties as necessary.

While performing the duties of this Job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Frequent exposure to inpatients and outpatients who may be experiencing a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications
Experience Requirement:
Working knowledge of PCs and the ability to navigate in a Windows environment utilizing a mouse. Basic knowledge of office equipment (fax machine, copy machine, scanner). Ability to clearly speak, read, write, and thoroughly understand English. Ability to learn and follow policies and procedures.

Clerical Skills:

* Basic Computer Skills.
* Typing Speed 30wpm

Minimum Qualifications:

* High School Diploma/GED.
* Demonstrates satisfactory competence in computer data entry systems similar to those used within Kaiser Permanente, or proficiency in word processing applications.
* Completion of medical terminology class or equivalent experience.
* Completion of basic anatomy/physiology class as it relates to surgical pre- and post-operative diagnosis and procedures or equivalent experience.
* Microsoft Office basic skills.
* Surgery scheduling experience, preferred.
* Knowledge of surgical supplies and equipment needing to be ordered.
* Demonstrate well-developed verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Demonstrates and communicates a service-oriented approach to all customers.
* Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
