Perioperative Equipment & Material Cost Specialist
Supervises materials and cost containment in the operating room including the inventory control systems and various perioperative database systems. Monitors department budget issues and provides direction to operating room leadershiip. Ensures compliance with Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) agreements. Responsible for achieving all Service Area and National Contracting Purchasing cost saving goals. Partners with Periop leadership, Supply Chain Management and/or other Periop Cost Specialist to support OR equipment, instrumentation, implants, and supplies to ensure all necessary OR equipment and supplies are onsite for all surgical procedures.
- Takes a lead role in the development and maintenance of a purchasing strategy for the Operating Room that is consistent with the overall national sourcing strategy to ensure KP receives the best value for dollars spent on products and services.
- Supports procurement of supplies for the ASC and interacts with Purchasing and on-site Supply Chain Teams.
- Research, obtain quotes for equipment and/or supplies through the appropriate purchasing channels (eprocurement or OneLink)
- Supports successful completion of product recalls, sustitutions, and contract conversions.
- Supervises and tracks all ASC inventory in the CORE and POU, with responsibility for the daily management of information systems processing requirements for administering supplies, equipment and services transactions and requests.
- Ensures that all internal audit and SOX controls are followed.
- Suports vendor relations, overseeing trials and loans of equipment and supplies. Ensures compliance with vendor visitation policy and assisting with vendor access and compliance.
- Monitors and oversees vendor activities and ensures compliance with internal controls and PO agreements.
- Develops reports and extracts data from various systems for analysis and interpretation on utililzation, quality, and inventory levels to ensure compliance.
- Partners with Perioperative leadership and Supply Chain for materials, equipment, and instrumentation standardization processes.
- Partners with perioperative services to support utilization of consignment and reprocessing programs to drive affordability.
- Analyzes contracts and purchases to ensure cost savings and quality goals and guidelines.
- Recommends changes, additions, and deletions to contracts basd on supply needs.
- Review data reports to adjust PAR levels and review inventory accuracy.
- Recommends corrective action to supply cost variances.
- Identifies and implements Product Utilization savings. Advises National Procurement Supply of new services that require new products and, thus, new contracts.
- Participates on Local Regional ASC Product Council to present findings and recommendations on cost savings opportunities. Participates on Project Start Up Teams for new facilities.
- Review workflows, makes recommendations for process improvement, and supports implementation.
- Where applicable, trains and leads storekeepers/case pickers on software applications to meet Operating Room and Supply Chain sevice agreements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum three years of experience in a combination of purchasing, contracting, supply chain management or other related areas, including previous experience with systems management and inventory control of $5MM+ annual spend.
- Bachelors degree ub business administration, finance, supply chain/material management, or related healtcare business field; or equivalent experience in a directly relatred field.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.

- Must have strong knowledge of Perioperative Services, including all OR equipment, instrumentation, implants, and supplies.
- Must possess strong time management, communication, and people skills. Supports a positive team environment to work collaboratively within the Perioperative team.
- Proficient in a variety of software applications with the ability to develop complex spreadsheets and write business communications
- Must be able to work successfully within a Labor/Management Partnership envinronment.
- Experience in a healtcare environment with specific knowledge of Operating Room medica/surgical products preferred.
- Experience working in a union environment preferred.
- Professional certification such as a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) preferred.
- Significant knowledge of products/services and their market environment within the scope of Kaiser Permanentes procurement and logistics programs preferred.
