Assures cardiac catheterization laboratory equipment and room are functional. Assists in direct patient care during pre and post procedures. Assumes role of scrub tech and cardiac monitor tech during interventional and diagnostic procedures. Performs imaging and other radiology functions. Assists in inventory and materials management to assure adequate availability of consumables for lab and its related care. Assists in orientation of new cardiac catheterization personnel. Recommends changes in non-clinical activities and department activities to improve quality of patient care and balance workflow. Identifies issues and recommends solutions.
- Prepares cardiac catheterization laboratory equipment and procedure room using aseptic technique.
- Assists in direct patient care during pre and post procedures.
- Assures necessary safety measures with attention to radiation protection.
- Assists in post catheterization management of sheath and insertion site according to scope of practice and per practitioner order.
- Performs roles of scrub tech and cardiac monitor tech in diagnostic and interventional procedures. Assures complete documentation in electronic procedure record when performing cardiac monitor tech role.
- Maintains required level of cardiac support according to scope of practice.
- Assists in inventory control and materials management.
- Ensures proper function and quality of imaging and radiographic equipment in collaboration with biomedical engineering, respective industry partners, and system administrator for physiological and archival system.
- Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Recommends changes in non-clinical and department activities to improve quality of patient care and balance workflow. Identifies issues and recommends solutions.
- Orients and trains cardiac catheterization technologist personnel in diagnostic and interventional procedures performed within cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- Attends Radiation Safety meetings and represents the department.
- Minimum two (2) years of current cardiac special procedures and interventional cardiac catheterization lab experience.
- Associates degree in radiologic technology; or two (2) years of direct related experience.
- Radiographer License (Hawaii)
- Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
- Radiologic Technologist Certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, oral communication, problem solving, results orientation, teamwork and written communication.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) with the Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
- Certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association.
