Point-of-Care-Testing Coordinator
To provide functional direction and guidance as assigned. Monitors and coordinates all waived and non-waived tests - PPM, Moderately Complex tests - performed by non-laboratory personnel, i.e., LVN, RN, RNP, physicians, etc., in the Medical Center or other related Medical office building.
To ensure compliance with the requirements of the regulatory agencies, CLIA and CDHS; and the accreditation agencies, TJC and COLA in regard to point of care testing. To serve as a resource person and technical consultant to all areas of Medical Center or other related Medical office buildings point of care testing, as appropriate, of changes in regulations that effect point of care testing. To assist in the evaluation of new technology, instrumentation and supplies and make recommendations as appropriate. Determine QA/QC protocols for each test that will effectively monitor all aspects of the testing based on accrediting agency requirements. To determine, prepare policies and procedures governing point of care testing within the Medical Center or other related Medical office buildings to ensure regulatory compliance and to meet accrediting agency regulations. Perform and document an annual review of all procedures and ensure distribution and knowledge of any revisions. Ensure that all personnel who are performing any laboratory testing have received adequate training and competency is assessed periodically. Ensure documentation is being maintained for all personnel certified to perform point of care testing, with operator ID and codes when appropriate. Ensure participation to an approved Proficiency Testing Program for all non-waived point of care testing performed in the Medical Center or other related Medical office buildings. Ensure documentation of instrument calibration, quality control, remedial action for out of range controls, maintenance and proficiency testing programs in all departments performing point of care testing. Review and retain area performance reports and prepare corrective action plans when there is a failure to meet QA guidelines. Ensure that all Hospitals California Department of Health laboratory licensures and CLIA certificates are current and updated.
- Minimum four (4) years of training/experience in clinical laboratory area(s).
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical or biological science.
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (California)
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of a CLIA general supervisor.
- Working knowledge of TJC, COLA, CLIA, OSHA and CDHS requirements.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
