Description:
Job Summary:

The Biochemical Genetics Technical Director will be responsible for supporting the clinical, scientific, technical and regulatory aspects of the biochemical genetics laboratory. The technical director is responsible for the assessment, development, refinement and implementation of current and future clinical biochemical testing in addition to presenting and educating staff in these testing methods. The technical director is expected to interface with all clinical and laboratory staff including management, medical directors, ordering providers and technical staff.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reviewing, interpreting and sign-out of relevant biochemical genetics reports in a high volume testing environment.
  • In conjunction with biochemical technical staff, the technical director must be able to educate an appropriate interpretation and test usage, while actively refining and developing laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Able to analyze and prepare reports for integration into medical and management decisions to yield continuous improvement in the laboratory.
  • Other necessary functions include, but not limited to:
  • Ability to multi-task, plan and perform test validations.
  • Compose validation summaries with relevant and appropriate descriptions of performance characteristics.
  • Familiar with regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
  • Conduct and review proficiency testing.
  • Conduct internal inspections.
  • Interact with referral laboratories.
  • Assist managers in quality improvement projects.
  • Implement quality assurance measures.
  • Ensure all quality control guidelines are met.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate laboratory testing issues and be actively involved in the solutions to maintain a high quality biochemical genetics laboratory.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the Medical Director/Physician-in-charge of the laboratory.

Education


  • Earned doctorate in Human Genetics or related field.


License, Certification, Registration


  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (California) OR Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist License (California)



  • Clinical Biochemical Genetics Certificate from American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics


Additional Requirements:


  • Post-doctoral Biochemical Genetics Laboratory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in Biochemical Genetics, Molecular Technologies.

  • Previous experience in a Diagnostic Clinical Biochemical Genetics Laboratory.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a cooperative and integrated laboratory environment that includes other high complexity genetic testing.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.


Preferred Qualifications:



  •  Prefer familiarity with both Molecular Genetics and Biochemical Genetics
