Job Summary:

The Executive Director, Integration will play a critical role in KP-s overall enterprise strategy and growth and diversification agenda and will report to Vice President, Integration, part of the Enterprise Strategy and Business Development team. She/he will support the marketplace and enterprise efforts working with members of the national and market leadership teams. The ED, Integration will be responsible for integration of acquisitions, new businesses and functions. The role will ensure KP is evolving enterprise capabilities to accommodate a variety of business models, providing operating model development, coordination across the broad KP enterprise (including Risant Health and new businesses) while staying mission and strategy aligned. She/He will work in partnership with Business Development during transaction development and diligence and with New Businesses during start-up. This role will serve as a collaborator with acquired, JV, or partner organizations during integration, including as a key point of contact within the KP enterprise. The ED, Integration will partner across the Enterprise Strategy and Business Development team to develop and manage enterprise strategic growth. She/he may lead integrations independently up to several billions of dollars.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Integration Leadership and Management:
    • Key contributor to KP-s creattion of modular approach to integration - from pre-close planning to post-close implementation - that will be adapted and fit for purpose to transaction support for ICC, Risant Health and other new businesses.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders within acquired organizations.
    • Procure and manage senior-level subject-matter expert support as needed to support integrations and diligences.
    • Define pre-close planning scope of work based on Day 1 requirements and high-value activities; 
    • On a project basis, drive overall program structure and engagement model, providing clear guidance on strategic intent of the transaction and pressure test workstream approaches and outputs clearing roadblocks.
    • Facilitate leadership updates, framing recommendations and escalating risks/issues as needed.
    • Ensure the integration is delivering against business expectations. 
  • Enterprise Function Integration Readiness:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders within enterprise functions (InfoSec, Finance, Procurement, Pharmacy, IT, etc).
    • Serve as  a primary point of contact for enterprise partners, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. 
    • In partnership with VP, Integration, create and execute repeatable processes for enterprise function engagement in diligence, pre-close planning and integration. 
  • Enterprise Capability Development / Adaption for New Business Models: 
    • Ensure the enterprise has the right capabilities, capacity and resources to support enterprise growth and new business models. 
    • Partner with functional teams (Infosec, Pharmacy, Supply Chain, etc.) to efficiently extend capabilities to new acquisitions and new business models. 
    • Support operating model design to enable tools, services, and best practices to be adapted from core KP functions to new businesses and subsidiaries.
  • Transaction Evaluation and Development:
    • Participate in evaluating potential acquisitions or partners that align with the enterprises strategic objectives as part of the Business Development diligence and deal negotiation
    • In collaboration with Business Development, operational leaders, and Finance, identify, size and incorporate priority synergies and integration requirements into transaction documents and business case assumptions. 
  • Performance management: In alignment with the KP Integration Playbook, define performance metrics, standards, and methods to establish integration success. Provides expertise for the development and assessment of strategic performance metrics to support business/integration initiatives, either function-specific or across the enterprise. Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure cohesive and reachable targets. 
  • Change management: Leads and champions change management plans associated with integration projects and intiatives by leveraging and developing key stakeholder relationships to obtain support and buy in for changes; ensures executive management, project/program champions, and business owners communicate and align improvement initiatives to guide long-term business strategy; and empowers stakeholders to embrace a change management mindset, understand intent and purpose, and foster a culture of change.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including leaders from health plans, finance, IT, Regional, Permanente, Risant, KPMF, and other national functions. Ensure alignment and support across all levels of the organization.
  • Standard Work Development: Establish and refine methodologies for strategy translation, implementation and measurement, including identifying the business problem, evaluating potential strategies, prioritizing moves, and developing strategy roadmaps. Partner with Enterprise Transformation, Business Development, and operational teams on documenting and disseminating best practices of strategy translation into execution. A leader in ensuring that these methodologies are applied consistently and effectively across the organization.
  • Engagement of Internal & External Parties: For assigned initiatiatives, ensure the appropriate engagement of internal and external parties in all activities. This includes legal, compliance, finance, and other functions critical to the successful strategy development. 
  • Executive & Board Communication/Approval: When applicable for strategy, develop and deliver a plan to gain support and approval from executive leadership and, when applicable, the KP Board of Directors. 
  • Talent development
    • Mentor and develop team members to build a strong strategic capability within the organization 
    • Identify talent needs and support recruitment efforts to strengthen the strategy team 
    • Manages resource capacity and allocation to ensure appropriate progress 
    • Supervise, coach, and develop key members of the, team fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring the team is equipped to meet the organization-s strategic goals.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant work experience with progressive responsibility.

  • Demonstrated success in building and executing a wide range of enterprise strategies
  • Proven ability to build and develop high-performing teams
  • Success managing complex programs and integrations
  • Experience with complex Operating Model Design, determining information flow and decision rights for new processes or working relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex organizational initiatives, with ability to lead and coordinate projects/initiatives with multiple internal and external constituents at national, regional, and local levels.
  • Ability to navigate and work through influence to achieve high impact outcomes; demonstrated political savvy.
  • In a highly complex system environment, she/he will be a systems thinker who is focused on advancing the entire organization. She/he will be a collaborative team player who looks for opportunities to align diverse constituents and breakdown silos. She/he will build partnerships through systemic influence by:
  • Facilitating discussions to enable people to collaborate with each other independently; promoting collaboration across the entire KP organizational structure.
  • Identifying and meeting with key players and stakeholders to help them shape a consensus collectively and engaging in a dialogue to reach a final conclusion together, compromising as necessary for results.
  • Developing explicit understanding of which relationships are most important to the organization and its stakeholders and building a network prioritizing these relationships.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, strong project management and problem-solving skills, sound judgement and a willingness to resolve issues and problems in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively, and secure buy-in from key stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in healthcare preferred
  • Experience within a matrixed organization is preferred
