Genetics Nurse Coordinator
For the Region, provides advanced clinical nursing expertise, promoting high quality of standards of care for clients with, or at risk for, genetic/congenital conditions who are followed by the multi-speciality clinics and comprehensive screening services of the genetics department. Provides program administration, consultation, education, collaboration, and research. Monitors and ensures staff complies with the various state and federal regulatory requirements within the Kaiser organization.
- Provides on-going program planning and management, develops region-wide protocols, and promotes standards of care for clients with, or at-risk, for genetic/congenital conditions.
- Provides expert consultation with physicians and other health care providers to enhance and monitor the quality of care and the level of care provided for clients affected by, or at-risk for, genetic/congenital conditions.
- Collaborates with client, caregiver, and interdisciplinary team members in assessing client needs.
- Develops and implements a plan of care for complex, high risk patients.
- Evaluates effectiveness of care plan and revises plan as needed.
- Creates and directs complex analysis of patient/program information from a variety of data sources for program development, risk management and quality monitoring.
- Directs and participates in the quality assurance and improvement activities, promoting cost-effective delivery of services, improving internal and external customer satisfaction, and insuring positive patient outcomes.
- Initiates and participates in collaborative research projects, written articles, and professional presentations.
- Identifies and promotes improved innovative clinical practice based on new knowledge and research in field of specialization, using a broad scope of nursing expertise.
- Acts as case manager for the care and follow up of patients in the specialty clinics.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current activities in genetics and recommends/implements enhanced clinical practice standards for the department and the region.
- Supervises the day to day operations which includes support staff.
- Ensures their competency and quality of work. Serves as preceptor for graduate healthcare students.
- Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. At any time, Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status. Such changes are generally implemented only after notice is given to affected employees.
- Minimum two (2) years of previous acute nursing experience required.
- Minimum three (3) years of clinical expertise in area of specialty required.
- Masters degree in nursing, MPH, health education or related field required.
- Registered Nurse License (California)
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Prior clinical nurse specialist/administrative/teaching experience preferred.
- Previous computer experience preferred.
