Director, Genetics
Directs teams in providing genetic testing services, including arranging and analyzing tests, reviewing orders, evaluating pedigrees and abnormal results, and making informed recommendations for testing based on complex risk analysis while considering cost to the organization. Ensures quality assurance by overseeing adherence to standards, investigating complaints, and directing teams on adhering to referral and care protocols. Directs genetics program management by providing organization-wide oversight on workflows, contributing to process implementation, directing program/project management, overseeing the implementation of new programs/systems, and providing feedback for development and efficiency. Engages in education and research by overseeing the development and delivery of in-service education, supervising students, championing participation in community programs, and staying updated with genetic literature. Performs consulting, communication, and networking activities to facilitate collaboration across stakeholders while providing organization-wide consultation and overseeing team members serving as liaisons for genetic services. Ensures compliance through driving strategy in developing, maintaining, and revising policies, driving multiple teams adherence to regulations, and overseeing report preparation and communication of program changes.

- Oversees the operation of multiple units within a department by identifying member and operational needs; ensures the management of work assignment completion; translates business strategy into actionable business requirements; ensures products and/or services meet member requirements and expectations while aligning with organizational strategies. Gains cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; assumes responsibility for decision making; sets standards, measures progress, and fosters resolution of escalated issues. Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporates them into business plans; prioritizes and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; ensures teams accomplish business objectives.
- Ensures compliance by: driving strategy in developing, maintaining, and revising policies, procedures, and protocols based on up-to-date advances in genetics, laboratory testing, and state and organizational mandates; driving multiple teams adherence to departmental safety regulations; directing teams in ensuring genetic programs and services are in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, while proactively staying updated on regulatory changes and implementing necessary adaptations; and overseeing reporting, defining program changes, and ensuring development of protocols in accordance with state regulations.
- Performs consulting, communication, and networking activities by: providing organization-wide consultation and overseeing teams serving as liaisons between genetic services and government agencies, other business and operational departments, and other clinical departments; providing direction and consulting oversight to genetic counselors, physicians, and department administrators; ensuring organization-wide communication between genetic services providers, laboratories and other departments; and developing and maintaining a contact network of executive management professional staff to facilitate program directive and maintain program standards.
- Engages in education and research by: overseeing the development and presentation of genetic services in-service education and training programs and current medical topics to physicians, appropriate staff, and/or members; providing strategic oversight on the supervision of genetic counseling graduate students, genetic fellows, and other students and trainees seeking genetic knowledge; championing teams participation in community education programs; and providing strategic oversight on genetic literature searches and driving the team to stay abreast of developments in the field to gain expert knowledge and guide organizational goals.
- Provides genetic services by: directing teams in arranging for genetic testing and coordinating strategic and innovative data analysis and/or reviewing available publications and clinical guidelines; holding own organization accountable for coordinating and participating in detailed, high-quality reviews of genetic test orders to ensure correct tests and laboratories are used; developing advanced strategies for reviewing family pedigrees, unusual cases, abnormal results, and viewing genetic test results; conducting strategic planning for assessing recurrence risks and recommending medical or genetic testing based on complex analysis of the risk and benefit while considering cost to the organization; and driving strategic initiatives for the department to serve as a resource to health care providers, laboratories, and support staff regarding genetic testing and follow-up.
- Directs genetics program management by: providing organization-wide oversight on the design, development, and implementation of processes, programs, and workflows related to genetic services; driving strategic, long-term program and project management to identify, research, develop, and implement solutions; overseeing the creation and implementation of new programs, services, procedures, and computer and data management systems; and developing and directing genetic department budget and implementing developmental needs for short and long-term program plans.
- Ensures quality assurance by: overseeing adherence to quality assurance standards and setting future direction for department developmental needs for short and long range plans; working with multiple medical geneticists to develop long-term strategies and clinical indicators for quality assurance; directing teams and establishing performance expectations and process improvement for ensuring membership service complaints are escalated, investigated, and resolved; and overseeing the maintenance of statistics, survey trends, and implementing long-term strategies accordingly to ensure appropriate patient referral and timely access to care.

- Minimum two (2) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
- Masters degree in Genetic Counseling AND minimum eight (8) years of experience in genetic screening, genetic counseling, obstetrics, public health, healthcare, or directly related field
- National Provider Identifier required at hire
- Genetic Counselor Certificate required at hire
