This internship role is scheduled to be flexible. Please be prepared to spend part of your time working remotely and part of your time working from a Kaiser Permanente regional office. Finalists MUST reside in one of the following states to be eligible for employment with Kaiser Permanente: CA, OR, WA, HI, CO, GA, MD, VA, CT, DC, or IL.
Department Details:
The Business Process Optimization Department supports Kaiser Permanente Health Plan Clinical Contact Centers by driving clear, consistent communications and standardized knowledge management practices. The department translates clinical, operational, and system changes into structured communications and reliable knowledge resources that enable efficient, compliant, and high-quality member interactions. By partnering with clinical leadership, operations, training, IT, and vendors, the department helps streamline workflows, reduce variation, improve clarity, and support the consistent execution of optimized business processes across all markets.
Internship Projects:
Assist with implementing a new, scalable enterprise knowledge management system for all HP Clinical Call Centers to provide accurate, consistent, and easy-to-navigate information to support member interactions across all markets.
Target Majors:
Healthcare Administration; Public Relations and Communications; Public Health; Business Administration; Human Resources
Target Skillset:
Support calibration and formatting of knowledge content to ensure consistency and usability
Assist with cleanup and organization of guidelines, ensuring content aligns with established standards
Apply tagging and keywording to improve searchability and system intelligence
Help optimize content to support smart system functionality (e.g., improved retrieval and relevance)
Perform cross-checking and validation of knowledge content to confirm accuracy and completeness
Document findings and flag inconsistencies, gaps, or potential improvements for review

Essential Responsibilities:
- Contributing to a designated project or initiative to meet a KP business objective.
- Report development and analytics.
- Project management - planning, execution, and measurement.
- Learning new applications needed to complete assignments or support the execution of business objectives.
- Job shadowing in other functional areas.
- Performing additional duties as required.

- Pursuing a bachelors degree or have graduated from an accredited university within the last year.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

- Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- 3.0 GPA or above.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
