This internship role is scheduled to be flexible. Please be prepared to spend part of your time working remotely and part of your time working from a Kaiser Permanente regional office. Finalists MUST reside in one of the following states to be eligible for employment with Kaiser Permanente: CA, OR, WA, HI, CO, GA, MD, VA, CT, DC, or IL.
Department Details:
Maui Health System (MHS) Analytics is a small team that is based in Portland, OR. We work closely with our business partners located in Maui by meeting virtually over Microsoft Teams and adapting our work schedules to accommodate the time difference between Hawaii and the Northwest. We work with everyone from the CEO of MHS to the frontline staff. MHS Analytics strives to produce high-quality reports and dashboards using Crystal Reports and Power Bi that our business partners can utilize to make informed data-driven decisions. Although MHS Analytics is a small team, we are responsible for all reporting from Clarity.
Internship Projects:
The KP Insight - MHS Analytics Intern will work closely with the three analysts on the team to deliver high value reports and dashboards that directly impact hospital operations, finance, quality, and patient care. The intern will gain experience working with business partners throughout all levels of the Maui Health Organization, from front line staff and managers to top level directors and executives. We will have projects centered around Power Bi, Crystal Reports, SAS, SQL, with the potential for development in more advanced analytic languages such as R and Python. The intern will be responsible for adhoc reporting, modifying existing reports to better meet our business partner's needs, participating in annual testing and maintenance, and overseeing report/dashboard development from start to finish (writing code and turning that code into visuals that tell a story). The KP Insight - MHS Analytics Intern functions as a critical member to our team and we look forward to welcoming our seventh summer intern through the University Relations program.
Target Majors:
Computer Science; Data Science; Business Administration; Management Information Systems
Target Skillset:
Strong foundational knowledge of SQL and relational databases
Experience working with large datasets
Data cleansing and transformation
Experience developing in Power Bi or other data visualization tools
SAS experience is preferred but not required
R and Python experience is preferred but not required
Crystal Report development or experience in like tool
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to deal with ambiguity
Ability to solve complex problems
Ability to self-prioritize work
Ability to quickly pivot to meet changing needs of organization and business partners
Strong self-starter

- Pursuing a bachelors degree or have graduated from an accredited university within the last year.

- Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- 3.0 GPA or above.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
