Job Summary:

Provides diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine services in a hospital and/or clinical setting. Utilizes radiopharmaceuticals under the direction of an authorized user to perform complex nuclear medicine procedures assisting in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease or other physiologic conditions. To perform all duties in a manner which promotes team concepts and reflects the KPNW mission and philosophy.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs nuclear medicine procedures independently and evaluates scanning techniques using knowledge, skills and abilities to ensure high quality consistent results are achieved. Acts as a team member and ensures age appropriate care is provided. Analyzes and processes data. Evaluates technical quality of work performed to identify cause of common problems and acts to correct them.
  • Follows principles of ALARA when handling radioactive materials. Receives and stores radioactive materials, maintains required records for receipt, utilization and disposal per radiation safety standards. Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals per department policy and procedures. Maintains diagnostic and therapeutic dosing information as needed to comply with state regulations. Performs all quality control and assurance procedures on equipment as required by governing bodies.
  • Organizes and prioritizes workload according to urgency of services requested while maintaining safe efficient use of isotopes and equipment. Compliantly manages patient data through multiple computer programs. Actively participates in continuing education to maintain technical skills and knowledge.  Assists the manager and chief of department in developing and refining techniques to increase diagnostic and therapeutic usefulness of procedures. Consults with ordering physician or nuclear medicine physician as needed to provide information, answer questions, and clarify orders.  
  • Participates in the standby and on-call schedule to support the hospital and emergency department by performing emergent studies outside of normal department hours. Assists with patient transport and clerical functions as needed. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education


  • Bachelor's Degree in applied science or related field OR an Associate's Degree and (2) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.


License, Certification, Registration


  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Nuclear Medicine Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate.



  • Food Handler Certificate (Oregon) within 1 months of hire.



  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist License (Oregon).



  • Basic Life Support within 1 months of hire.



Additional Requirements:


  • Demonstrated written and verbal command of the English language

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills

  • Completion of a NMTCB or ARRT accredited program in Nuclear Medicine Technology or equivalent knowledge as required by federal/state regulations; working knowledge of principles of Nuclear Medicine and radiation safety

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, applying technical knowledge



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with state-of-the-art imaging equipment

  • Experience with Siemens cameras/computers, and PACS

  • Experience with PET/CT

  • Experience with SPECT/CT

  • EPIC and RIS or other computerized scheduling system

  • Venipuncture, IV start and injection skills

  • CPR and code response

  • Knowledge of USP 797 and aseptic technique needed for compliance

  • Bachelor's Degree in applied science.
