Job Summary:
Dually reporting to the Executive Medical Director (EMD) and the VP for Business Operations in KPMF, the VP Ambulatory Operations will have a dyad relationship with the Executive Medical Director of Operations (EMDO).  This dyad will have joint accountability over Market ambulatory care and operations (including clinicians and staff) and Clinical Directors.  Additionally, the VP Ambulatory Operations will oversee the creation and sustainability of clinical practice, sustainability of our business, and assurance of optimal, culturally responsive, and high-quality care for our members, all in alignment with the Enterprise strategic goals. The VP Ambulatory Operations is responsible to execute on the business strategy for the Market which will include the development of capital strategy plans and overseeing operations in the ambulatory setting.. Ultimately, the VP Ambulatory Operations is responsible for coordinating all day-to-day operations in order to deliver high-quality effective care to members in a fiscally responsible manner.  Specific areas of focus include workforce planning, clinical IT projects, and practice optimization.

Essential Responsibilities:
-    Collaborate effectively with dyad partner, the Executive Medical Director Operations (EMDO).
-    Provide oversight for all operations within facilities and programs in collaboration with the KP Medical Foundation and Market Leadership Team to drive process and organizational improvement.
-    Make sound decisions on the best use of resources in support of priorities and strategies to keep Market, KP Medical Foundation, and Enterprise fiscally sound.
-    Responsible for the clinician resource methodology and allocation for Market.
-    Accountable for meeting experience standards and exceeding Market benchmarks.
-    Accountable for the design and coordination required with teams responsible for professional and facility contracting.
-    Ensure responsibilities of Market to KP Medical Foundation and other as outlined in the Management and Professional Services Agreement (MPSA) are fulfilled to maintain a fully functional care delivery system.
-    Provide leadership in the development and execution of key strategies which differentiates KP from its competitors in the areas of service and clinical experience.
-    In partnership with HR,
-    Direct the implementation of integrated human resources strategies to ensure quality, results in the identification, recruitment, retention, and development of key human resources.
-    Resolve legal and HR issues to ensure compliance with all organizational and regional policies.
-    Participation in expanding markets through collaboration with Market and KP Medical Foundation on business line growth strategies.
-    Market representative for rate setting and growth.
-    Provide input and advocate for capital expenditures.
-    Ensure the successful implementation of, promote, and operationalize the Labor Management Partnership throughout the organization.
-    Serves as a Sponsor or Co-Sponsor with EMDO for the following areas:
-    Workforce planning.
-    Clinical IT Projects.
-    Practice Optimization.
-    Digital Health.
-    Regional Labor Management Partnership.
-    Embody and emanate desired culture behaviors congruent with the KP Medical Foundation and Enterprise mission, vision, and goals.
-    Lead by example through integrity, transparency, commitment to unparalleled levels of service, and dedication to active culture change.
-    Provide leadership and guidance in stewarding the organization through inevitable change which integrates different points of view and builds ownership.
-    Promote open, effective, and ongoing communication and the sharing of information among and between KP employees, physician leadership and medical staff.
-    Establish an environment that supports caregivers and enhances growth, open communication, and job satisfaction.
-    Lead as One KP across the Enterprise.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in a complex, multi-faceted health care setting demonstrating direct experience with: Supervision in medical operations, building strong partnership in a matrix organization, and patronship with external vendors, partners, and networks.

Education

  • Bachelor-s Degree in Business, Health Administration, or related field (flexible).
  • Master-s Degree in MBA, MHA, MPH or similar.
License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of the healthcare industry, particularly related to physician relationships as well as nurse and ancillary care givers.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal, regulatory, ethical, managerial, organizational requirements, principles, and standards of care for hospitals and healthcare systems.
  • Experience assessing programs, evaluating organizational needs, designing process changes, and successfully implementing changes to process flow and patient care.
  • Extensive experience working with physicians and other clinicians; must have examples of successful collaborative efforts in a business partnership with clinical, business, physician, and labor leaders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and an ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Demonstrated success in operations improvement efforts, cost-management initiatives, and hospital and health system development and management.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple aspects of health care delivery; managing in a complex, managed care environment is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with both strategy and operations.
  • Demonstrated strategic and program planning skills in a managed care environment.
  • Extensive financial planning and management skills.
  • The ability to balance strategic development and day-to-day operation responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated skills in team building and organizational development.
  • Communication skills characteristic of an executive who excels in communicating in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings, large and small, both inside and outside the organization, and issuing cogent and consistent written messages that build confidence and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to impact outcomes using influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function collaboratively in a multi-entity partnership environment.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor Management/Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with KP integrated model, operations, and markets is strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing performance metrics and maintaining accountability in key areas of member satisfaction, quality improvement, finance, and delivery system performance is strongly preferred.
