Job Summary:

• Leads all aspects of our Northern California 
Optical Manufacturing Lab in Richmond, CA
• Leads/manages a team of 110+ FTEs and 5 direct 
reports producing 450K eyeglass orders per year
• Optimizes productivity while achieving quality 
eyeglasses and high member satisfaction
• Leads teams to achieve key metrics including 
Turnaround Time (TAT), quality, first pass yield, 
and other member satisfaction metrics
• Ensures compliance with safety rules, 
policies, procedures and KP’s Principles of 
Responsibility
• Identifies opportunities and creates action 
plans for improved efficiencies and 
productivity
• Supports employee engagement to fulfill our 
vision of service/quality excellence 
• Must be capable to lead in Labor 
Management Partnership environment

Responsible for management & direction of operations for a large unionized optical manufacturing/fabrication plant. Plans for, develops, maintains and manages plant, equipment, personnel, production processes, and expenses to meet growing optical product demand. Proactively meets or exceeds high quality and service expectations. Operation of the plant produces & delivers eye care products ordered from optical sales offices.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Provides strong leadership, emphasizing cost management, customer service, innovation, quality and human resource management. Supervises Bench, Stock and Surface managers, as well as Assistant Plant Manager. Recruits & Monitors qualified managers as required. Coordinates the evaluation & resolution of production and service issues. Meets and/or exceeds customer expectations with regard to quality, delivery time, and all aspects of customer service.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of appropriate technical, service and management training programs. Establishes production standards and monitor performance for optimal outcomes. Assures all safety procedures and requirements are met. Develops and is responsible for administering manufacturing & capital expenses. Responsible for human resources/union relations issues.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a similar environment and position.

  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience required.


Education


  • Bachelors degree required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.


License, Certification, Registration


  • N/A


Additional Requirements:


  • Projects broad-based background in managing people and budgets.

  • Previous responsibility for financial accountability.

  • Strong human resource knowledge and experience in a union environment.

  • Prior experience with personal computer programs and manufacturing computer applications.

  • Must demonstrate persuasive leadership skills to guide staff through innovative and demanding period.

  • Position requires afternoon and evening hours.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Masters degree preferred.

  • Depth in Manufacturing (not necessarily Optical) experience, great communicator and motivator, big picture mentality but can work in the details when necessary, participative/transformational leadership style but capable of employing other styles as needed;  and strong ethics and standards.
